Senior Legal Counsel

Working with a well know Qld Service provider reaching 3 millions South east Queenslanders every day, you will work closely with senior management providing critical services to ensure compliance, legal advice and insurance management across the organisation.

The organisation operates with integrity, respect, care and courage.

They offer a fully flexible working - with 2 days in the office, 3 days from home. Strong legal team of 7 with 2 direct reports and collaborative culture with autonomy and organised approach.

Your responsibilities will include

Provide and coordinate expert legal advice across the organisation (including the Leadership Team), with a core focus on areas of construction, property, contract, commercial, procurement, administrative, and dispute resolution, including litigation.

  • Effectively manage key stakeholders, client and supplier relationships to ensure the timely delivery of services, ensuring a customer-focused delivery of services is achieved.
  • Provide guidance to internal customers with negotiating, reviewing and drafting legal agreements, commercial contracts and correspondence to maximise value and minimise disputes and litigation.
  • Provide professional advice to internal customers in connection with managing performance obligations under contracts and agreements and being a point of escalation for negotiating and resolving disputes under contracts and agreements. Manage any disputes or litigation as and when required.
  • Identify and remain abreast of legal developments and potential legal risks relevant to the organisation and proactively advise on the best management strategies.
  • Prepare and present briefing papers for the Board and Executive Leadership Team on a range of issues.
  • Brief and manage external legal providers and monitor their performance and cost effectiveness in areas that are suitably handled with external assistance, including procurement processes, budgets and reporting.

Your will have

  • Tertiary qualifications in law with current practicing certificate.
  • Minimum 8 years relevant post admission experience, preferably with a focus on construction or government sector.
  • Driver's license for a motor vehicle.
  • Experience and demonstrated knowledge in the areas of construction, contracting, commercial, intellectual property, dispute resolution, including legislative and regulatory oversight and commercial advisory.
  • Experience in the autonomous handling of legal matters with little or no supervision.
  • Experience building and influencing internal and external stakeholders' relationships in a mature and diplomatic manner to clarify concerns, specify legal issues and advise on the most appropriate course of action.
  • Significant experience in drafting and negotiating commercial and contractual issues, including the end-to-end procurement process.
