About the opportunity

Reporting to the Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, the new position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Community and Leadership) leads the University's strategic direction and guidance across the University's culture, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&
I), and leadership agendas. They will ensure an integrated and coherent University-wide approach to planning, design, delivery, and communication, taking responsibility for strategy setting and planning for University culture, DE&
I and leadership. They will collaborate across the University - in particular with other Deputy Vice-Chancellors, the Vice-president (Operations) and the Chief Human Resources Officer - to realise the culture, diversity and leadership objectives set out in our Sydney in 2032 Strategy.

Supporting our desire to lead with high trust and high accountability to deliver high performance, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Community and Leadership) is also accountable for the University's recently established Leadership Academy, a strategic priority identified in Sydney in 2032.

About you

Your background will ideally include the following:

  • Higher education:
    Profound understanding of the distinct dynamics, challenges, and regulatory requirements inherent in higher education, including a strong understanding of the contemporary academic environment and grasp of matters affecting academic and professional staff, as well as students.

  • Qualifications and experience:
    Doctoral degree and senior academic leadership experience within a university environment.

  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&
    I):
    Commitment to and interest in DE&
    I initiatives and programs is essential, and a desire to engage with DE&
    I best practices, cultural competence.

  • Leadership strategy:
    Considerable acumen in academic leadership strategy, encompassing a deep understanding of strategic management, and the ability to develop and implement effective strategies that drive organisational success.

  • Culture strategy:
    Proficiency in culture strategy is important, including a thorough grasp of organisational culture, the ability to understand cultural dynamics, and the skill to develop and implement strategies conducive to a positive, all-encompassing culture aligned with the institution's values and aspirations.

  • Organisational transformation:
    Aptitude in spearheading and overseeing organisational transformation in a university milieu.

  • Collaboration and Partnerships:
    Capacity for collaboration and adeptness in forging strong partnerships with a diverse array of stakeholders, including University leadership, academic and professional colleagues, students, and external collaborators.

  • Employment:
    Having awareness of employment law and regulations unique to higher education institutions

  • Finance:
    Experience in budget management, resource optimisation, and allocation.

Term and remuneration

The term of the appointment is five years on a full-time basis. This position will be supported by a substantive continuing professorial appointment. Relocation assistance will also be provided if required.

The successful candidate will be offered a competitive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
