Albany Secondary Education Support Centre (ESC) is seeking to appoint an innovative, highly professional, and dedicated Deputy Principal - Education Support to join their exemplary team.

In collaboration with the Principal and the Leadership team, the Deputy Principal - Education Support will provide educational leadership in the school and community by developing and promoting the school's vision, business plan and strategic directions across the school community. A significant responsibility of the Deputy Principal - Education Support is to implement and maintain a collaborative school culture that promotes positive behaviours, relationships between students, staff, parents, caregivers and the wider community. This will require knowledge of high level behaviour support systems, interagency collaboration, coaching and training staff and monitoring effectiveness of individual, group and whole school systems including data analysis.

The successful applicant will ideally possess outstanding interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence to develop strong relationships with all stakeholders of the school community. Strong curriculum knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum and Abilities Based Learning Education, Western Australia Support Materials (ABLEWA) as well as experience utilising Special Education Needs - Reporting to Parents (SEN RTP) and the National Quality Standards is highly desirable.

The Deputy Principal works proactively with staff to ensure consistent, collaborative practices in teaching and learning. A key role will be to collaboratively develop and implement whole school plans for English, Maths and Aboriginal Education, with Augmentative Alternative Communication embedded.

The Deputy Principal, alongside the leadership team, promotes the school's vision and drive the school's priorities as detailed in the Business Plan. The successful applicant should possess the skills and knowledge to lead teams of staff with a focus on quality teaching and learning, data-driven and evidence-based practice to improve student outcomes and drive school improvement.

The successful applicant will ideally have experience in completing disability resourcing checklists and reviews, Vocationel Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) knowledge and managing students transitioning in and out of the school. This will include liaising with parents/carers, external providers as well as working with teachers and special needs education assistants to ensure the academic, social and emotional needs of our students are met.

Excellent organisational skills as well as the capacity to achieve successful outcomes, across all layers of a school community are highly desirable attributes. It would also be highly desirable for the successful applicant to have recent experience with Education Support operations and an excellent understanding and experience with the use of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS.)

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level ofinterpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.G. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs);
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department's induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department's training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
    and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
