Overview of the Strategic Development Function
The Strategic Development Function plays a critical defining and implementing Helia's strategic aspirations.
This newly created team has combined the following functions to enable a more disciplined focus on key strategic priorities across the business:
Group Strategy, Business Planning &
Strategic Reviews
Strategic transformation with a particular focus on growing the LMI market
Custodian of Helia's strategic agenda and oversight of the integrated workplan
New Product Development
Corporate Development / Inorganic Growth
Management of existing investments in adjacenct businesses (e.G. Household Capital, Tiimley)
Management of relevant non lending partners to explore new growth opportunities
Communications &
PR (Internal and External)
Government Relations - with a particular focus on increasing the awareness of LMI to better inform housing policy
The Strategy Manager is an integral part of the Strategic Development team, assisting the Head of Strategy &
Growth with development, refinement and delivery of the Helia Strategic Plan in collaboration with key stakeholders.
Key to this role is ensuring focus on critical strategic priorities and initiatives across the full business, ensuring successful implementation and achievement of Helia's strategic ambitions.
This role requires a combination of analytical skills, strategic thinking, understanding of market trends, and business principles. A background in consulting will be highly beneficial. Strong presentation (ppt) and visualisation skills are essential.
The successful candidate will be comfortable with ambiguity, and interpreting feedback/responding to requirements of multiple senior stakeholders. While a strong understanding of LMI is beneficial, it is not critical to the role.
Responsibilities
Help to drive development of the Helia multi-year strategic plan with key stakeholders, ensuring an "
Outside in"
andintegrated approach
Support the annual strategic planning process including coordinating SLT Strategy days (2 p.A.) and Board Strategy days (3 p.A.)
Develop the strategy artefacts and communication tools to ensure alignment to the strategy across all stakeholder groups (staff, customers, investors, etc) and support their roll out
Critically assess the potential impact of various strategic initiatives, including determining viability, desirability and feasibility to enable prioritisation
Application of strategic frameworks and scans to the Helia environment
Lead adhoc strategic reviews with relevant business owners (e.G. broker strategy)
Develop regular reporting on the external environment (geo-political, economic, regulatory, customer, technology) to articulate the implications for Helia (i.E. risks and emerging opportunities)
Draft documentation to support workshops and Board meetings as relevant
Adhere to the compliance obligations relevant to the position;
perform duties in an ethical, lawful and safe manner;
undertake training as directed by the Compliance Leader;
report and escalate compliance concerns, issues and failures;
and disclose potential conflicts of interest

Business Degree
Capabilities - Preferred
Previous consulting experience (highly preferred)
Experience in financial services sector
Working knowledge of the Australian mortgage insurance and financial services industries
