Senior Project Engineer:
Permanent Full Time / SMD Office

What you will be doing:

This position is accountable for managing and delivering engineering and design projects for the successful delivery of high-quality, cost-efficient designs, using integrated, optimised engineering &
project management techniques and methodologies.

  • Effectively manage safety-in-design risk to as low as reasonably practicable, through the active use of safety-in-design principles and practices and in line with Western Power's Electricity Network Safety Management System
  • Lead, from a technical perspective, engineering professionals to provide a coordinated design service
  • Accountable for ensuring that project scope is fit-for-purpose;
    negotiate, set, and monitor design project performance (cost, quality, time, risk, resources)
  • Manage design regulatory and legislative compliance, reporting non-compliances where necessary
  • Relentlessly drive continuous improvement, utilisation of standard designs (and updating thereof) to achieve sustained delivered value, while seamlessly contributing to the overall business
  • Manage own performance to improve personal effectiveness, while proactively providing technical guidance and coaching to design engineers
  • Where design work is outsourced, undertake contract management of outsourced design contractors against established frameworks. Identify contractor technical areas for improvement and contribute to development and coaching of design contractors

The skills and experience you will have:

We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

  • A degree in an engineering discipline
  • Eligibility for corporate membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia
  • Extensive and broad engineering experience and expertise in design, operation, and maintenance of electricity networks
  • Project management experience in a utility, design consulting, or industrial environment
  • Sound understanding of the interactions of related disciplines impacting on distribution substation and lines design, including civil/structural issues, environmental issues, and safety issues.
  • Experience of best practice project management and work management processes
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and technical coaching experience.
  • Sound understanding of risk management and its application to safety-in-design
  • Valid WA Driver's License Class 'C' or 'C-A'
  • Knowledge of the UDS, WAPC regulatory compliance, and Technical Rules and in-depth Knowledge of Australian Standards including AS2067, AS7000, AS3000, AS4853 and AS3000
