We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Development Engineer at Perth Office CBD on a Permanent Full Time Basis.


About this role

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with various stakeholders, including senior management across the organisation to drive investments that are directly linked to achieving strategic business outcomes. You will also have exposure to working with regulatory frameworks, commercial sourcing process, network and systems operational requirements and Western Powers asset management planning processes.

As the Senior Project Development Engineer, you will be accountable for planning and managing complex, high value pre-execution projects to define project requirements. Your day-to-day role and responsibilities involve:

  • Coordinate and lead a Joint Planning Team (JPT) of Subject Matter of Expert (SME) from different departments (and/or external service provider) to develop project requirements
  • Establish clear ownership of JPT deliverables and provide support where required to ensure deliverables are on track
  • Plan and monitor project activities, identify and analyse project risks and escalate as required
  • Ensure delivery of mandatory deliverables as defined in Western Power Investment Governance Framework

Ultimately, this culminates in the development of investment proposals (business case) which addresses all strategic, financial, technical, market and regulatory considerations ensuring the business makes informed, documented investment decisions thus enacting Western Power's Corporate Strategy.

You will also be providing sponsorship for projects across its lifecycle, ensuring projects are delivered within prescribed timeframe and budget. Where required initiate project change control processes to analyse, document and present project change controls for approval.


About you

We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

  • Degree Qualification in Engineering Electrical or other engineering disciplines with at least 7 + years relevant knowledge and engineering/project expertise in planning, design, operation, and maintenance of electricity transmission and/or distribution networks.
  • The ability to synthesize complex issues and present options analysis backed up with strong arguments specially with limited information.
  • Demonstrated track record of bringing together and leading multiple inter-disciplinary teams towards common goals, in a supportive and respectful way
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain excellent internal and external relationships at different levels across a large organisation
  • Knowledge in financial evaluation techniques, managing and controlling projects budgets, including estimating, resourcing and forecasting of cost and timeline
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to construct business cases narration and communicate project requirements
  • Ability to rationalise decisions aligning with corporate strategies and distilling complex information for a variety of audiences
  • Proven track record of end-to-end project management, leadership, problem solving and stakeholder management are highly regarded.
  • Proficiency in related tools such as MS project and P6 is also desirable
  • Eligibility to CPEng status by Engineers Australia desirable
