Legal Aid Queensland is seeking a dedicated Senior Lawyer to join our Corporate Law Services team. As the senior lawyer in Legal Aid Queensland's Corporate Law Services team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality legal services to support vulnerable and disadvantaged Queenslanders. Your primary responsibility will be to provide expert advice on a range of legal matters, including contract law, administrative law, legislation, and policies.

You will be responsible for providing advice on contracts, which includes drafting contracts and amendments. Additionally, you will assist in the commercial and legal aspects of contract development and management, including agreements with suppliers of legal services, leases, and major contractors.

In this role, you will also provide assistance to the Chief Executive Officer and the executive team on legal issues as required. This may involve managing responses to complaints from the Ombudsman's Office relating to the ethical and professional behaviour and competency of Legal Aid lawyers, as well as complaints received through the Legal Services Commission, Queensland Law Society, and Bar Association of Queensland.

Furthermore, you will conduct reviews of decisions on requests for information and provide guidance and expert legal advice regarding sound decision-making practices and the protection and release of information and documents held by Legal Aid Queensland. You will also undertake other activities associated with the Corporate Law Services team's deliverables and initiatives, contributing to improvements in the policies and procedures associated with Legal Aid Queensland programs and initiatives.

Your role will also involve contributing to team planning and compliance with corporate responsibilities, as well as maintaining a high standard of practice through governance and risk management. Overall, you will play a crucial role in ensuring Legal Aid Queensland's continued ability to provide essential legal services to those in need.

Requirements:

  • Experience in drafting contracts and contract management.
  • Ability to gather, investigate, and provide impartial advice.
  • Knowledge of administrative law and relevant legislation.
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Admission as a legal practitioner in Queensland or eligibility for immediate admission.
  • Eligibility for a current practising certificate and entry in the High Court Register of Practitioners.
