Senior Data Engineer

CSL has an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Data Science Team based at our state-of-the-art facility in Melbourne.

You will lead and provide hands-on data engineering &
programming support across the Research project portfolio to enable data science applications across CSL R&
D with a focus on translational and clinical development areas. You will work on Research project data engineering activities creating data pipelines, establishing quality controls and processes for study data (human and non-human) and big data (genomic, proteomic and imaging) management, including data transfers, curation, validation, transformation, and ingestion.

You will work interactively with internal and external partners to identify data engineering needs for scientific objectives and decisions and will support development of data products that help R&
D reach their objectives.

Reporting to the Head of Data Management and Engineering, your main responsibilities include:

• Design, develop and improve data pipelines and solutions for efficient data processing and transformation to integrate data from many existing systems and make it available for analysis.
• Collaborate with data scientists and life scientists to design and implement data models that support business analytics and reporting. Perform data transformation activities to convert diverse data formats into a standardised format adhering to industry or enterprise standards and specifications.
• Provide data engineering support following FAIR data principles, facilitating data inventory, cataloguing, search and exploration capabilities for data &
  life scientists.
• Manage and maintain data storage infrastructure on cloud (AWS) platforms and on-premises servers.
• Support development of training programs in collaboration with external vendors and internal platform owners to up-skill scientists across R&
  D to raise competence inthe use of CSL data platforms

Your Experience:

• Masters or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Data Science/Software Engineering /Mathematics/ Bioinformatics/Biostatistics or relevant field
• 5+ years of Data Science/Engineering experience involving programming
• Advanced programming skills (python, R, SQL, SAS);
  proficient in using APIs and database query languages.
• Advanced knowledge on Data Science &
  Visualization concepts and experience using Databases, Business Intelligence tools &
  applications.
• Experience with data management principles (FAIR), standards, methods, and platforms.
• Experience handling structured and unstructured data (laboratory data, clinical data, real-world data or other relevant data is a big plus)
• Familiarity with Amazon Web Services or other cloud platforms.
• Project and stakeholder management skills with demonstrated ability to work in an environment with multiple projects and timelines.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills bridging scientific and business needs.
