The Opportunity

The Senior Corporate Counsel role is responsible for the internal management, review and advice regarding transactions across the business including mergers, acquisitions, divestments, procurement/developer agreements and general commercial and corporate matters. This role will also support the General Counsel in the development of all legal and enterprise risk management initiatives across G8 Education.

This role is Part-Time working 22.8 hours per week.

Your day-to-day

• Assist in the implementation of the GC/CoSec strategy for G8 to align with the Group's Strategic Plan.
• Achieve sustainable improvement in key GC/CoSec metrics with the agreed contract management framework, spend vs budget, compliance with risk management framework and other defined value outcomes.
• Stay abreast of legal developments and innovations to ensure best-practice opportunities are considered and deployed within G8.
• Develop and maintain productive cross-functional relationships and support best practice to deliver on overall company strategic goals and objectives.
• Manage, review and provide advice regarding transactions across the business including mergers, acquisitions, divestments and procurement/developer agreements.
• Lead activities under the direction of the GC/CoSec in areas such as refinancing, capital raising, verification of ASX Announcements, Annual Reports, Prospectus and other documents.
• Manage material litigation, warranty claims and disputes, and provide support to the Insurance Manager and Corporate Counsel in respect of any claims or disputes they are addressing.
• Manage the intellectual property portfolio and provide advice in order to protect the company's intellectual property assets.
• Provide general commercial legal advice and support to achieve targeted outcomes in terms of quality and cost.
• Assist the GC/CoSec in the establishment and maintenance of a contract management framework to ensure that G8's standards in relation to contracted terms are well understood, and that there is compliance with delegated approvals for changes to standard contract terms.
• Assist in the review the Group's legal processes, including benchmarking against market comparators, and implement strategies for improvement.

About You

• Undergraduate qualifications in Law (Bachelor of Law)
• Current Practising Certificate
• 8 + years of experience in corporate / commercial matters, ideally in a top tier law firm and/or in a similar in-house role.
• Ability to prioritise and complete multiple projects at the same time.
• Ability to work independently, combined with an excellent work ethic and strong time management skills.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with all levels of the business.
• Well-developed experience in partnering with stakeholders to support wider business strategies and ensuring that staff and suppliers are aware of, and comply with, their obligations.
• Demonstrates professionalism and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
