The Opportunity

We at John Holland are looking for a progressive People Director to Provide strategic and operational support to the major projects business unit by ensuring a strong connection and collaboration between John Holland's People Strategy and the Building business unit.


This role works collaboratively with the Major projects SLT, Projects teams, CPO, People SLT and the Corporate People team to identify and understand business challenges and find opportunities to deliver solutions to enhance employee and business performance.

Key Accountabilities

  • Participate as an active member of the major projects SLT and People SLT
  • Develop / lead the implementation of strategic People initiatives to support the People strategy across major projects in collaboration with Corporate People, major's SLT and HR project leaders, including initiatives relating to workforce planning, capability, early careers, talent, succession, performance and goal setting, performance management, engagement, retention, attraction, leadership, development, remuneration and rewards.
  • Lead and develop the Building people and social inclusion team and support the Building Project teams to identify and deliver People outcomes and initiatives that facilitate the delivery of profitable projects, enhance the employee experience and deliver on contractual requirements.
  • Lead and develop the Business unit people and social inclusion team and support the major Project teams to identify and deliver People outcomes and initiatives that facilitate the delivery of profitable projects, enhance the employee experience and deliver on contractual requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with the GM IR and Projects to ensure IR risks are minimised and any IR strategies that may have a negative impact on other projects are considered.
  • Ensure that the BU maintains robust HSE risk management processes, capability, focus and discipline.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, procedures, systems and processes.
  • Work collaboratively with the GM People Planning &
    Enablement to provide People related reporting, data and information to support continuous improvement, and establish People metrics that support business objectives utilising data to positively influence business outcomes.

Position Requirements

  • Extensive experience providing strategic HR leadership and senior level experience across relevant HR disciplines, including experience in large complex organisations.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Business Management, Human Resources, Law or Employee Relations
  • Expert knowledge of human resources, employee relations and employment law in Australia.
  • Outstanding stakeholder engagement, influencing and negotiation skills, Proven ability to work cross functionally, building strong business partnerships.
  • Strategic ability to problem solve, think laterally, formulate plans, coach and provide advice to senior management.
