Purpose of the Position
The Director People and Culture will be part of the Executive leadership Advisory Team (ELAT) and will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources practices and processes. The Director People and Culture will align Batchelor Institute's goals with Human Resources initiative and lead and develop the People and Culture team and effectively manage employee relations, performance management, compliance and other Human Resources programs.
Duties

  • Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.
  • Bridge management and employee relations by addressing demands, grievances, or other issues.
  • Support current and future business needs through the development, engagement, motivation, and preservation of human capital.
  • Develop and monitor overall HR strategies, systems, tactics, and procedures across the organisation.
  • Nurture and promote a positive working environment.
  • Oversee and manage a performance appraisal system that drives high performance.
  • Report to management and provide decision support through HR metrics.
  • Ensure legal compliance throughout human resource management.

Selection Criteria
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and organisations.Proven working experience (minimum 5years) as a Director or Manager within Human Resources, Demonstrating the following:

  • 1. In-depth knowledge of industrial relations processes and HR contemporary best practices;
  • 2. Demonstratedexperience in managing a high performing, service oriented HR team;
  • 3. Providing high quality and accurate HR advice to the senior executive;
    and
  • 4. Ability to develop and implement HR strategies.
Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication which can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all backgrounds. Ability to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated initiative and managing workload priorities. Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.


Desirable
Tertiary qualification in Human Resources or similar.
