Manager - International Tax

Pitcher partners - Melbourne
new offer (04/05/2024)

job description

We're a leading network of independent Australian firms, working together to enable growth and ambition for our clients. And our people.

When you join Pitcher Partners, you're joining a team with heart. We support each other. We learn together. We're deliberate about fostering relationships that nurture and empower every individual.

And we're excited by what's possible. We know some of the best new ideas come in the form of curious, talented people we haven't met yet. Perhaps you're one of them.

Meet your team

Our Tax Advisory practice manage a range of taxation issues. As legislative experts with longstanding institutional relationships with the ATO, this team advocates for effective tax legislation that benefits middle-market businesses and organisations.

We're focused on outcomes for clients, not internal box ticking exercises. You'll be empowered to challenge the status quo and find a way to make things happen to add real value to our clients' businesses.

The International Tax team operates as a cohesive group within the broader Tax Advisory practice, where collaboration is encouraged, and regular training keeps the team up to date on current tax matters. Team members receive regular tax technical training from the National Tax Group. From legislative updates, recent cases, and ATO public rulings, our training keeps you updated on the latest developments in tax.

About the role

As a Manager in the International Tax team of our Tax Advisory practice at Pitcher Partners, you'll work directly with business owners and key stakeholders with international dealings, to provide commercial tax solutions that have a meaningful impact.

The breadth of the role means in any one day you might provide advice across a range of technical tax issues as well as being a trusted advisor partnering with clients to help solve their broader business issues. We truly believe our one firm approach achieves the best outcomes for clients, so you're encouraged to collaborate across practice teams to find solutions.

The diverse spread of advice you will provide could relate to tax treaty issues, attribution issues, withholding taxes, thin capitalisation, 99B issues, capital gains taxes, consolidation and a myriad of other tax issues in the context of structuring transactions and/or organisations with international dealings. There is ample opportunity to grow and develop your tax career with this practice.

Key responsibilities

  • Draft advice on a range of issues;
    for example:
restructuring of entities with cross border considerations, corporate and individual tax residency advice, foreign hybrid mismatch advice, capital gains tax, structuring and corporate tax matters for cross border clients.
  • Work directly with clients to help with the establishment of cross border business structures.
  • Review of international dealings schedules and tax returns and advice in that regard.
  • Build and cultivate client relationships and collaborate with internal stakeholders
  • Coach, support, and lead team members, delivering technical training
  • Engage in business development opportunities

Who we're after

Here are the key qualifications, skills and personal attributes we're looking for. If you tick most of the boxes, but not all, we'd still encourage you to apply. Other capabilities you have may make you the perfect fit for the role, and we can work on filling the gaps together.

  • Tertiary qualification in accounting, law or a relevant business field, and experience in the application of international taxation matters in a professional environment.
  • Proven experience in delivering commercial taxation advice to a range of clients from different backgrounds and business sectors as well as the demonstrated ability to produce well-researched and clearly articulated tax opinions and advice.
  • Positive team player with the ability to contribute to the delivery of successful client projects and manage and coach junior team members.
  • Effective communicator, can build rapport, influence, and negotiate effectively with both internal and external clients when required.
  • Self-motivated and able to manage conflicting deadlines. You have a genuine interest in furthering your career in tax and providing exceptional advice to our clients and internal stakeholders.
