As one of our Legal Counsel, you will draw on your training, skills, experience and independent position to provide clear advice and support enabling timely, informed, risk-based decisions by the accountable decision maker.

About the Roles

Reporting to the Head of Legal - Energy and the Head of Legal - Enterprise respectively, we have two opportunities available to join a high performing, inclusive, collaborative and highly regarded Legal team.The team has a broad remit and you will have the opportunity to support on a range of work across the EnergyAustralia business, including:

  • Providing proactive, commercial and solutions-focused legal advice on simple and complex contract negotiations (including procurement for operational sites), corporate mergers and acquisitions, dispute resolution and regulator interaction.
  • Driving continual improvement, with particular attention to reducing cost and simplification.

Energy - For this role, the focus will be on our portfolio development activities, our existing generation and storage assets, and our wholesale market trading activities, including:

  • Work on energy transition projects.
  • Innovative offtake arrangements.
  • Ancillary services and network support agreements.
  • A wide range of wholesale gas sale, storage and transportation agreements.
  • ISDA derivatives as well as agreements for wholesale market trading activities.
  • Regulatory changes in the wholesale energy market.

Enterprise - For this role you will support a diverse range of activities across the business, including:

  • In relation to EnergyAustralia's finance department, including EnergyAustralia's external financing arrangements.
  • For the Yallourn power station (including the adjacent mine both in its current operational phase and the preparatory work for its upcoming rehabilitation following closure in 2028).
  • In relation to general corporate, property and environmental matters.
  • For litigation and workplace safety matters, where required.
  • A range of activities that primarily fall within the remit of the Customer &
    Technology, and Energy,legal teams (including scope to be involved in EnergyAustralia's energy transition projects).

What you need to support the Clean Energy Transition

  • A degree in Law as well as a current practicing certificate.
  • Previous experience providing advice on some of the areas described above with a reputable Australian law firm or large corporate.
  • A can-do attitude and be keen to develop your capabilities across the energy sector.
  • Strong and effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to work independently or collaboratively, and combine strategic thinking with the ability to identify key issues.
