Cross River Rail is a new 10.2km rail line including 5.9km of twin tunnels running under the Brisbane River and CBD. It includes the delivery of four new underground stations, two new above-ground stations, accessibility rebuilds for six stations, the construction of three new stations on the Gold Coast, and the introduction of a new world-class 'ETCS' signalling system.

About the Role:

The role of Legal Counsel, Property is to support the General Counsel and CRRDA Legal team protect the interests of the State and the CRRDA by providing expert, independent legal advice to the Minister, Board, Chief Executive Officer and staff of the CRRDA on property and tenure related issues involving or affecting the CRR Project, other 'transport related projects' prescribed under the under the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority Act 2016, Cross River Rail Priority Development Areas (Boggo Road, Woolloongabba, Albert Street and Roma Street).

The Legal Counsel, Property will join the small, high performing in-house Legal team at the CRRDA and report directly to a senior member of the existing team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate the provision of independent, cost effective, high quality and authoritative legal advice and services to the CRRDA on property and tenure issues.
  • Partner with the Land team to support project delivery through establishing appropriate tenure arrangements, including the preparation and negotiation of property-related agreements and dealings, completing tenure correction and acquisition activities, coordinating land hand back processes following construction and proactively identifying and managing property-related legal risks.
  • Become an expert on the property-related contractual arrangements for the CRR Project, other transport-related projects and CRR Priority Development Areas.
  • Provide timely and accurate advice to the CRRDA regarding legal matters involving or impacting operations.
  • Promote and maximise the CRRDA's operational and commercial effectiveness and
  • Assist the CRRDA to use the legal resources available to it in a fiscally sustainable
  • Manage, document and retain corporate legal knowledge for the
  • Deliver multi agency outcomes on behalf of the Delivery Authority in the interest of State and CRR.

About You:

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Property law experience across the public and/or private sectors, in particular relating to commercial development, transport, infrastructure and/or major projects, with a strong background in formulating effective legal solutions for complex matters related to project delivery;
  • Experience and success in fostering legal compliance with commercial acumen, collaboration and active participation especially across multi-disciplinary teams;
  • Experience withsecuring and amending tenure associated with major projects;
  • Awareness of legislative and policy considerations relevant to project delivery and land acquisitions;
    and
  • Exceptionalwritten and verbal communication skills, self-motivated with exceptional time and practice management skills.

Mandatory requirement:

Admitted or immediately entitled to be admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland.
