Job Description
How will I help?
We're looking for a Head of Risk to join our dynamic Business and Wealth Division. In this pivotal role, you'll provide independent and specialised 2nd line risk oversight and advice to our Private Wealth Line of Business (LOB), ensuring that risk decisions are aligned with our risk appetite. You'll play a key role in developing and fostering a strong risk culture, embedding the 3 Lines of Defence (3LoD) model and supporting frameworks to meet regulatory and governance requirements.
You'll be directly responsible for overseeing all lending activities for Private Wealth, driving consistency across Westpac, St George, Bank SA, and Bank of Melbourne. Your leadership will be instrumental in defining and maintaining our risk appetite, credit processes, and decision-making across these entities.
As the leader of the Private Wealth Risk team, you'll manage operational risk, credit decisioning, portfolio management, and credit policy. This 2nd line independent control function ensures robust oversight of Private Wealth while supporting the Deputy Chief Risk Officer (dCRO) BWD and other Heads of Risk.
You'll provide independent advice to the Private Wealth LOB Leadership Team on risk appetite, risk profile, strategy, and control environment. Through strong partnerships with LOB, you'll ensure effective implementation and monitoring of our Risk Management Framework and key policies.
You'll lead the setting of divisional risk appetite and oversee the implementation and monitoring of controls to support credit risk policies. Regular reporting to divisional risk committees and executive reporting will be part of your responsibilities to ensure appropriate governance and escalation of credit issues.

What do I need?
You'll bring over 10 years of credit decisioning experience across various sectors and at least 15 years of leadership experience in financial services or a similar corporate environment. An obsession for delivering excellent customer experiences, deep knowledge of Private Wealth and banking products, and the ability to think and act strategically are essential. Your strong negotiation skills, ability to influence others, and commitment to creating a strong team culture will set you up for success in this role.
