About the Role
Applications are invited for 27.5 total EFT psychiatry registrars (stage 2 and 3). Most of these positions are full-time accredited training positions though there are also opportunities for part time training.
Over the course of training we offer opportunities to rotate to general adult inpatient and community psychiatry, child and adolescent mental health, the social and emotional well being unit (associated with the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service) consultation-liaison psychiatry (including consultation-liaison psychiatry in psycho-oncology), psychiatry of old age, dual diagnosis, dual disability, and psychiatry in the private setting. There are also opportunities to rotate to forensic mental health. In addition to rotational opportunities we support positions in the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service, Perinatal Mental Health, Psychotherapy and Victorian Transcultural Mental Health Unit and Foundation House (the Victorian Foundation survivors of torture).
St Vincent's supports subspecialty training in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, Psychiatry of Old Age, Psychotherapy and Addiction Psychiatry (applied for separately).
We encourage our trainees to be actively involved in not only their training and day to day work but to become engaged in quality improvement projects and change happening in our service. Junior registrars are supported by senior registrars in both inpatient and community settings.
There is an extensive academic and educational program available to trainees at St Vincent's Mental Health. St Vincent's has a particular commitment to providing a comprehensive training program which includes quality experience in psychotherapy (supported by our Head of Psychotherapy Training), access to research opportunities, and an active examination preparation program. In addition to RANZCP Supervision, senior psychiatrists provide a reflective practice group to the First Year Registrars. This supports a safe space to explore your experience as you step into training but sits outside of direct assessment related supervision.
