About the Department:

The Royal Children's Hospital ISAID (Improving Support for Autism and Intellectual Disability) program is an interdisciplinary service dedicated to the care for patients with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and/or intellectual disability (ID) displaying behaviours of concern (BOC) and their families. There are several positions within the program, of which this is one of the key roles.

About the Role:

This is a 0.2eft part time / fixed term role. The purpose of this role is to provide Child and Adolescent Psychiatry consultations for patients accepted into the ISAID program. The psychiatrist will play a key role in a multidisciplinary team, including developmental paediatrics, social work, and specialist behaviour support practitioners, with care coordination provided by the Clinical Nurse Consultant. The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist role will operate predominantly in the Outpatient setting.

You'll Be Responsible Ror:

  • Delivery of psychiatric assessments for patients accepted into the ISAID program (estimated at 3-4 per week)
  • Collaboration with other ISAID team members in case assessment and management
  • Liaison with other professionals in the RCH care team (eg. ED) and external service providers in the community (e.G. behavioural practitioners, schools, child protection practitioners) to achieve quality outcomes.
  • Case conferencing with community paediatricians and other professionals in care team to transition to ongoing care following the three month period of support.
  • Act as a resource for staff on the management of children and families with BOC
  • Provide high level of clinical expertise with independent decision making
  • Maintain clinical documentation, records and data as per RCH procedures

To Be Successful For This Role You Will Have:

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • FRANZCP or equivalent
  • Certificate of Advanced training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
  • Specialist registration with AHPRA and eligibility for registration within Victoria
  • Demonstrated clinical experience gained via a consultant role post FRANZCP
  • Previous experience in working with developmental and behavioural patient groups (ID and ASD)
  • Experience, training and/or work in developmental disability psychiatry
