  • The Eating Disorder Service, Perth Children's Hospital
  • Ward 5A(Inpatient CAMHS), Perth Children's Hospital
  • The Acute Care and Response Team
  • Community CAMHS

About the Role:
As a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, you will play a pivotal role in delivering diagnostic and consultative specialty services in Psychiatry. Your contributions will extend to teaching, research, quality improvement, and administrative activities within your service area. This is a unique chance to be part of a dynamic team, shaping the future of mental health care for children and adolescents.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality clinical management and treatment to patients of the service.
  • Uphold and elevate professional standards while fostering an academic environment that supports education, research, and professional development.
  • Actively contribute to teaching, research, and quality improvement initiatives.

What we are looking for:
The ideal candidate will be registered, or eligible for specialist registration, with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Fellowship (or pending Fellowship) with the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent specialist recognition is essential. Completion (or approaching completion) of the Certificate in Advanced Training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (RANZCP) or equivalent is highly desirable.
About the services:

The Eating Disorder Service
The EDS is the tier 4 State-Wide Specialist Service, offering assessment and treatment to young people with severe eating disorders. It is a multi-disciplinary team providing outpatient care, day treatment, inpatient care and support groups. The program supports children and young people and their families through assessment, recovery and discharge from the service. Our primary intervention is Family Based Treatment (FBT).
Ward 5A(Inpatient CAMHS), Perth Children's Hospital
Ward 5A is the 20 bed tier-4 State-Wide Service offering inpatient mental health care for young people up to 16 years old. You will be supported by a full Multidisciplinary team and junior doctors. Up to 3 psychiatrists share responsibility for the patients.
Acute Care and Response Team
The ACRT sees children who require a 'step up' in intensity of service which is greater than what can be provided by a Community CAMHS team, including the need for a more assertive approach. These children and families may require assertive follow up to encourage engagement, build rapport and develop a therapeutic relationship;
these children can be described as a 'hard to reach' cohort.
Community CAMHS
Community CAMHS has 10 services across the metropolitan area. Community CAMHS see infants, children and adolescents with various mental illnesses resulting in significant impact upon their functioning. We would work with you to match you to a clinic that suits your circumstances.
Perks and Benefits:

  • Join a vibrant and collaborative team.
  • Access to ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Contribute to ground-breaking research and advancements in mental health care.
  • Competitive remuneration and supportive work environment.
