The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.

About the role
The Communication Adviser (cyber) is part of a team of communication professionals that delivers innovative communication, media and engagement approaches and materials to raise the profile of DGS's cyber and digital resilience efforts and educate Victorians and key stakeholders about cyber safety.

The role works in partnership with its divisional colleagues and DGS' Cyber Security, Data and Digital Resilience Division to ensure stakeholders receive the right messages, through the right channels, at the right time. Key to this is providing advice on best practice communication.

This role will support specific project work, as well as support the department to respond to emerging issues during cyber emergency responses.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to communicate complex issues clearly and concisely, and present information that will be subject to public scrutiny.
  • Demonstrated flair and creativity, with a proven track record in delivering innovative communication strategies and content for a range of channels and audiences, including social media, advertising copy, web content, speeches, newsletters and other materials.
  • An ability to develop strong relationships internally and with a diverse range of stakeholders, and work collaboratively and partner with teams to understand and respond to issues.
  • Proven ability to identify emerging issues and assist the team to develop mitigation strategies to manage risk, as well as respond to major incidents.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and an ability to problem solve and achieve quality outcomes under tight deadlines.

Desired experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in public relations and communication, or equivalent, and/or experience in a government communication role.
  • IAP2 accreditation.
  • Experience and awareness of government emergency response protocols and processes and crisis communications.
