Job Description

The Hotel Chief Engineer will manage the operation, maintenance and repair of hotel equipment, tools and facilities. Oversees the work of maintenance technicians and ensures that hotel facilities and systems operate properly. The Chief Engineer is also responsible for scheduling workers on repair assignments, as well as in the field, preventative maintenance, solving air-conditioning or other system malfunctions and for coordinating with contractors on renovations, remodels and new construction.

Reporting to the General Manager, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Consistently offers professional, engaging and friendly service
  • Develop, recommend, implement and manage the department's budget capital expenditure plan, forecasts and objectives consistent with maintaining a first class property and management's expectations.
  • Prepare capital budget for new equipment and major repair to buildings, roads, parking lots, walkways, sewage, electrical, air conditioning, etc.
  • Develop, implement and manage energy conservation programs for the property to minimize expenses.
  • Develop, implement and managemaintenance programs and negotiate maintenance contracts for the hotel, the grounds and all of the equipment in compliance with corporate/franchise standards and local, state and national codes and regulations to ensure the safety, convenience and satisfaction of all guests, managers and employees to protect the asset and maintain the property in first class condition.
  • Supervise the Staff in the department, attract, retain and motivate the staff;
    hire, train, develop, empower, coach and counsel, conduct performance reviews, resolve problems, provide open communication vehicles, safe environs and administer disciplinary process as appropriate.
  • Ensure adequate stock of imported and local material is maintained and the stock is carefully controlled.
  • Reduce accident and environmental factors that cause or could cause damage or disruption to staff, materials, plant or equipment.
  • Attend daily Hotel Operations meetings.
  • Experience in a 5 star and AAA 4 Diamond hotel or resort required
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and problem solving skills required
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills with a proven track record of developing an environment of colleague growth, development, interdepartmental teamwork and exceptional guest service
  • Previous experience working in a unionised environment.


Qualifications

  • Must be a registered Engineer with over ten (10) years previous Senior Leadership experience
  • Master's Degree in civil, electrical and or mechanical Engineering
  • Advanced practical experience in building maintenance, mechanical and or electrical engineering along with project management
  • Comprehends financials, budgets, forecast, operating systems
  • Superior skills in Microsoft Office and hotel applications (e.G. Opera)
