About the Role

The Unaccredited Neurosurgery Registrar is involved in the daily management of patients in the outpatient, inpatient and surgical settings at St. Vincent's Hospital Melbourne. The position involves participation in the on-call roster which includes nights and weekends as well as participation in clinic audit meetings, journal club, neuropathology, neuroradiology, neurovascular meetings and tutorials. Research is highly encouraged in this position.


Duties include:

  • Assessing patients in clinic, emergency, planning operating schedules
  • Operating with various levels of supervision
  • monitoring post-operative progress of patients
  • Ensure complete documentation of admission and progress notes
  • Efficient running of the day to day activities of the unit
  • Mentoring and teaching junior staff

Classifications for this position will range from HM25 - HM30 ($125,900.84- $173,290.00 per annum)

Length of appointment:
3rd February 2025 - 1st of February 2026

Your Contribution

  • Classification of PGY3 or greater
  • Full working rights in Australia
  • Hold current AHPRA registration
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Hold a current, or willing to undergo a satisfactory National Police Check
  • Have a commitment to deliver the best in patient care and safety
  • Demonstrated experience applying medical knowledge towards sound clinical diagnosis, investigation and treatment of patients
  • Demonstrated effective communication with patients, relatives, staff and colleagues

The Department of Neurosurgery offers a broad range of neurosurgical experiences with a particular emphasis on the management of intracranial tumours, skull base surgery, pituitary, epilepsy and spinal surgery.
