The role

The role of Modern Workplace engineer at SoftwareOne is crucial for the company's capability to meet the IT requirements of its users and to develop, as well as sustain, the company's modern IT workplace services. SoftwareOne expects to manage rapid growth over the next several years, with Business IT being a cornerstone area supporting this expansion.

Role Description

• Design and engineerinnovative IT solutions for SoftwareOne's global enterprise users
• Develop and implement high-performance, scalable services and components to enhance the enterprise user experience, ensuring reliability and efficiency in the modern IT workplace
• Engage in technical collaborationwith team members to drive forward-thinking solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a technical consultant to end-users, interpreting their needs into actionable engineering solutions and services.
• Lead and contribute to user-centric projects with a focus on technical excellence and innovation.
• Act as a technical authority in areas such as Microsoft Entra/Azure AD, Microsoft Intune, Privilege Management, and Microsoft Defender, providing expert guidance and support.
• Possesses strong problem-solving skills for complex issues, utilizing existing knowledge to accelerate solution delivery and improve processes.
• Proficient at finding ad-hoc solutions when native/standard options are insufficient or unavailable.
• Display technical and logical thought process and contributes to knowledge sharing within a community (e.G. team, practice, or project) and train other engineer.
• Drive automation of common processes, enhancing efficiency and user self-service capabilities (ideally through ServiceNow integrations).
• Streamline security and compliance processes through automation, focusing on software management, distribution, patch management, and client hardware lifecycle.
• Collaborate with vendors to maintain cutting-edge client workplace environments.

Key Relationships

• Act as a technical liaison for escalated cases from the business, Service Desk, or within projects
• Foster strong partnerships with Modern Workplace Team members and other departments, sharing expertise and insights.
• Demonstrate global teamwork, acknowledging and bridging cultural differences to achieve collective goals.

What we need to see from you

• Highly proactive and autonomous, with a strong sense of ownership and a results-driven approach to engineering challenges.
• A passion for staying at the forefront of Windows and integrated software technologies, with a commitment to continuous learning and innovation.
• Excellent time-management skills, capable of setting realistic deadlines and delivering solutions within those timeframes.
• In-depth expertise in Windows Client OS platforms, especially Windows 10/11, with a focus on engineering and optimization.
• Essential experience in MS Intune Device Management and Windows Client engineering, with a proven track record in these areas.
• Advanced skills in automation or scripting, particularly PowerShell, are required. Familiarity with Power Platform is advantageous.
• Expert knowledge in software packaging and distribution solutions, with an emphasis on engineering scalable software ecosystems.
• Hands-on experience with tools and concepts such as:

  • Microsoft Identity and Access Management
  • Conditional Access
  • Mobile Device Management (MDM)
  • Mobile Application Management (MAM)
  • Windows Autopilot
  • Microsoft Print Services
  • Bring your own device (BYOD)
  • Automation (PowerShell, Power Platforms, Github, Azure PaaS)
  • Familiarity with Windows 365 is beneficial
• Broad knowledge in network infrastructure such as Firewalls, VPN, RADIUS, Wireless, etc.
• Expertise in Workplace Security (Endpoint security, Windows Firewall, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint) with a focus on architecting secure environments.
• Knowledge in cloud providers, such as Azure or AWS, especially PaaS offerings.
• Experience with asset management solutions.
• Experience with macOS client management is a plus.
• Minimum 5 years of experience working with Microsoft 365/Azure AD.
• Proven business communication skills, collaboration, and experience with agile concepts is a plus.
• Interest in AI technologies, with some experience in leveraging these tools to enhance productivity, automate tasks, and drive innovation in the modern IT workplace.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in computer science, electrical or computer engineering related degree
• 5+ years of experience in engineering client workplace solutions within medium to large organizations (>
  3000 users)
• Certifications related to Microsoft desktop environments or Azure are highly regarded.
