Due to internal promotion and exponential growth of our organisation, we now have an opportunity for Senior Operations Engineers to join our Network Operations - Operations Planning and Access Group. As a Senior Outage Engineer, you will provide operational engineering support to ensure the transmission network is fully optimised and compliant with the NER.


Working as part of an agile and solutions focused team, you will:

  • Perform detailed power systems analysis services, including fault level studies
  • Develop and maintain a library of power system contingency plans
  • Reviewing and developing operational procedures and standards
  • Review and report transmission network performance including the Market Impact Component and RINS review
  • Provide engineering advice and service to internal stakeholders in planning forums, OMS, planning and BD group
  • Manage network constraints and the communication of limits advice to AEMO including system strength advice
  • Analyse electricity market outcomes to provide informational input into business unit decision making
  • Provide real time support to our control room during planned and unplanned outages. This include providing system strength/constraint advice to ensure system security is maintained at all time
  • Design and implement Energy Management Scheme script
  • Coach and mentor Outage Engineers
  • Proactively build and maintain effective relationships, working constructively and providing advice and guidance to external stakeholders, including customers, AER, AEMO and EQL, to efficiently achieve required business outcomes within agreed timeframes.


This role offers an opportunity to lead a team, contribute to critical operations, and drive the efficiency and reliability of the transmission network.

The community you will join

Based in Brisbane, you'll become an integral part of a close-knit team consisting of 10 members, with direct reporting to the Outage Engineering Team Leader. Together, our team is dedicated to upholding the highest standards in ensuring the transmission network operates economically, safely, securely, and reliably. We are committed to maintaining strict compliance with Powerlink policy, procedure, and the National Electricity Rules (NER). Your expertise

  • Degree level qualification in Electrical Engineering
  • Hold registration as a RPEQ.

We'd also love you to have:

  • Extensive knowledge of power system operations and behaviour, secondary systems, physical transmission elements and their characteristics.
  • Extensive knowledge of SCADA, EMS and other power systems modelling and analysis applications.
  • Extensive knowledge of the National Electricity Market (NEM), National Electricity Rules (NER) and other commercial and legislative contracts that impact on Powerlink as a service provider to the NEM.
  • Extensive understanding of the NEM and the ability to conceptualise NEM outcomes as a consequence of transmission influence.
  • Demonstrated experience leading/coordinating various parties to align on an appropriate solution to a complex problem.
  • Demonstrated advocate/driver for strategic improvement within a network business.
  • Demonstrated experience with mentoring/coaching.
  • Knowledge of the Workplace Health and Safety, and other relevant legislation.
  • Previous experience in applying document control standards for a large organisation.
