Senior Media and Communications Adviser 12-month Fixed Term Opportunity

What's the opportunity?

As the Senior Media and Communications Adviser at Telstra Health, you will be a valued team member contributing to the successful operation of 1800RESPECT, which Telstra Health delivers on behalf of the Australian Government. This is a 12 Month Fixed Term Contract.

Key accountabilities:

  • Develop, implement and manage content plans for 1800RESPECT communications, marketing and media, including stakeholder engagements, website, social media, apps, conferences, and internal communications
  • Coordinate, draft and respond to media enquiries and monitor external media and manage issues accordingly
  • Create targeted communications and marketing plans and campaigns across various platforms, including news and media, digital and social platforms, with accessibility for hard-to-reach audiences central to the campaigns
  • Respond to and meet with external stakeholders in the domestic, family and sexual violence sector
  • Develop proactive strategies to support in raising awareness of the 1800RESPECT service
  • Engage the Department of Social Services as a key stakeholder, managing risks and providing support as required
  • Work with internal teams, including the broader Telstra Health Corporate Affairs team, and senior internal stakeholders to support the 1800RESPECT business unit to achieve its vision, mission and purpose
  • Foster the professional development and growth of a team member you will manage

Given the nature of the sector you will be working in, it is important to acknowledge you may encounter challenging and sometimes confronting circumstances surrounding media stories and general enquiries related to domestic, family and sexual violence.

This role requires flexibility to occasionally perform duties outside of hours for conferences, media events and other media management requirements.

NB:
role location is flexible, preferably Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Adelaide.

We are looking for:

  • Very strong communications background and demonstrated strategic and change communications planning capabilities
  • Experience managing and responding to media enquiries
  • Experience navigating and driving internal and external communications, while managing several stakeholders with competing priorities.
  • Proven experience in preparing communications content in a variety of formats
  • Some leadership experience
  • An undergraduate qualification in communications, journalism, public communication, public relations or media, or another similar qualification

Experience in diversity, inclusion and wellbeing communications and/or working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with lived experience, cultural and linguistically diverse people, LGBTQIA+ people or people with disability will be highly regarded.
