Westpac group - Sydney
new offer (18/06/2024)

job description

  • Permanent. Full time/ part time for right candidate
  • Hybrid working environment, 2 days in office

How will I help?

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced financial services lawyer to join our high-performing Global Transaction Services (GTS) Legal team. This role reports directly to the Practice Group Head for GTS Legal and provides support to the GTS business within the Westpac Institutional Bank (WIB).

The GTS business at Westpac provides transactional banking and payments solutions and support for a diverse range of clients, including large corporates, governments and SME customers. GTS also manages Westpac's participation in various payment networks and helps set the payments strategy for the group.

While GTS Legal forms part of the broader institutional bank Legal team, this role has a focus on payments and transactional banking as opposed to lending.

Key aspects of this role include:

  • Providing expert legal advice across a broad range of topics including legal and regulatory obligations in the Corporations Act, ASIC Act, Banking Code of Practice, ePayments code, competition and privacy laws and payments industry rules and regulations
  • Advising the GTS business on an evolving product portfolio including core account and liquidity management offerings and a wide variety of payables and receivables products
  • Leading the legal input into key strategic projects and regulatory change projects
  • Drafting and negotiating a wide range of customer agreements and product documentation
  • Playing a key role in mentoring and developing other lawyers and paralegals in the GTS Legal team

This includes leave to organise adoptions, surrogacy, and foster care arrangements. And we continue to pay your super contributions while you take all the time you need to get your new family settled.
