Job Description
How will I help?
The Senior Engineer will be part of the Westpac Institutional Banking Finance Technology team.
The Customer Financials Data Management (CFDM) application is a robust framework designed to support the financial reporting needs of Westpac Institutional Bank (WIB). It facilitates critical financial analyses, including Balance Sheet, Profit and Loss, Return on Equity, Net Interest Margin, Exposure, and various Portfolio Hygiene reporting.
The architecture of CFDM is built on a foundation of SQL Server databases, leveraging SQL Server Integration Services for efficient ETL, Control-M for batch scheduling, QlikView for front-end reporting and NPrinting for generating reports.
To enhance the operational efficiency and technical oversight of this complex system, WIB Finance Technology team is seeking to expand its QlikView development capabilities. This includes hands-on development, technical leadership, and the cultivation of domain-specific knowledge and intellectual property. The aim is to augment the team's proficiency in QlikView and SQL database development, solution design, stakeholder management, and to help manage partner resource's knowledge to be able to support the system efficiently. Apart from the CFDM application, there is a requirement to extend similar capabilities across Financial Markets QlikView application, to increase the domain knowledge &
support capabilities and reduce key person risk.
The ideal candidate must have 10-years plus experience in the IT sector, focusing on Qlik technologies like QlikView and NPrinting, along with expertise in analytical report creation. They must also be based in Sydney and willing to go into the office 2-3 days a week.
Responsibilities include:
Technical Specialism :

  • Proficient in QlikView and NPrinting, with a strong background in managing large datasets from diverse sources for batch processing.
  • Committed to designing and developing applications to the highest standards, ensuring they meet stakeholder requirements and maintain operational stability and suitability.
  • Demonstrated expertise in coding, development and support within QlikView, NPrinting, and SQL
  • Capable of providing expert technical design and strategic direction for analytical solutions, encompassing all system aspects within the specific sub-domain.
  • Responsible for overseeing end-to-end release processes, providing support across all environments, and ensuring changes are implemented correctly and function as intended.
  • Experienced in offering ad-hoc production support and collaborating effectively with Level 2 and 3 support teams.
  • Skilled in leading the diagnosis and root-cause analysis of complex issues, utilizing keen attention to detail and strong troubleshooting abilities.
  • Proactively drives improvements, enhancements, and upgrades by identifying opportunities in both project and BAU contexts.


Adherence to Organisational Framework and Processes

  • Engage in hands-on work and provide leadership throughout the Software Development Lifecycle, employing Agile methodologies to ensure efficient project progression.
  • Actively participate in sprint planning sessions, meticulously tracking critical path delivery and ensuring all milestones are met enroute to production.
  • Uphold high-quality standards for both internal and partner/out-sourced development teams, offering guidance and leadership to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Demonstrate a robust interest in data management, particularly concerning Data Governance of Critical Financial Data Elements and the monitoring of Data Quality metrics.


People management:

  • Establish clear leadership roles within the team to ensure efficient management and accountability.
  • Implement regular professional development sessions to foster skill enhancement and innovative thinking.


Stakeholder Management :

  • Foster collaborative partnerships with business stakeholders and SMEs to comprehend and address intricate business challenges, while also leveraging QlikView for constructing data models and visualizations.
  • Cultivate a robust support network with Level 2 and 3 support teams, both local and remote, ensuring efficient management of operational support tasks.
  • Engage with fellow Technical Leads across various teams to exchange knowledge and best practices, enriching the collective expertise.

What do I need?
To be set up for success in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Extensive 10-years plus experience in the IT sector, focusing on Qlik technologies like QlikView and NPrinting, along with expertise in analytical report creation.
  • Essential technical skills include proficiency in QlikView, NPrinting, SQL Server, T-SQL, SQL Stored Procedures, complemented by robust coding, solution design, and leadership abilities.
  • SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) knowledge, and experience in managing server/infrastructure and knowledge around it will be highly desirable
  • Proficient in database architecture, coding, and development, working with large datasets from multiple sources.
  • Skilled in production support with a strong track record in root cause analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools, such as TFS, and experience in code management and batch processing job scheduling, with a preference for Control-M is desired.
  • Experience in corporate and institutional banking, particularly in areas related to the balance sheet, finance, and general ledger, will be highly valuable.
  • Demonstrated experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
