About the role

A new, exciting, role of a Senior Engineer - Quality Engineering has risen within the Technology Services and Commercial division of Coles. This role is a permanent, full-time position.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Support engagements / project delivery requirements for quality engineering.
  • Contribute to test reports (daily, weekly and summaries)
  • Contribute to documentation of a quality test case that is repeatable without reliance on the original author.
  • Contribute QE Plan defining testing scope, tools evaluation, test environment setup, defining entry exit criteria, resource management, task assignment, defect management and reporting
  • Work to set execution rates of test cases to work to meet the agreed outcome as per the committed timeframe.
  • Participate in defect lifecycle, authoring, triaging and retesting (as required).
  • Build an understanding of the product on a technical and functional level, understanding the delivery context.
  • Contribute as a member of a highly capable, passionate, and motivated engineering team.
  • Evolve pragmatic QE solution design including test automation and continuous testing automation test that optimise delivery quality and efficiency.
  • Contribute test environment requirements to enable delivery of the QE solution.
  • Adopt a Risk Based Testing Approach minimises testing without compromising the required test coverage for the defined delivery risk profile.

Contribute to the quality engineering capability, frameworks, and patterns as a foundation for supporting business applications. Scope includes Test Automation, Continuous Testing, Test Data Fabrication/Creation, and Early Security Testing.

  • Explain the value of quality engineering approaches to stakeholders
  • Assess a project situation and recommend the most suitable solution, approach, and tool
  • Responsible for working with project stakeholders and delivering to a quality engineering solution design for test automation and continuous testing (inclusive of DevOps).
  • Responsible for elaborating test automation (code) that meet the project's needs and are sympathetic the remainder of the solution.
  • Advocate on all quality facets to the Build team.
  • Develop solutions that are fit-for-purpose and adhere to the solution design proposed and the underpinning principles of good software development.
  • Leverage as prescribed by the QE solution design the DevOps tools and techniques including Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD to enable continuous testing.
  • Review user stories and acceptance criteria and to contribute to an intelligent test case design through techniques such as pair-wise analysis, that maximises coverage while minimising effort.
  • Build an understanding of the product on a technical and functional level, understanding the context of our project engagements.
  • Keep up to date with industry trends in quality engineering, including cloud, latest architecture &
    designs for quality engineering platforms and artificial intelligence.
  • Ability to provide advice, guidance, offer suggestions, etc. and be seen as a quality advocate within the team
  • Ability to expand existing and develop new technical skills as required to emerging needs.

In addition to the above, you will also be adept in Quality Engineering enablement and delivery and stakeholder management.

  • Proven years' experience in the automation, development and testing fields, including on digital products in an agile environment, with experience contributing to large programs of work.
  • Demonstrated experience in evolving and maintaining technical solutions for complex and distributed environments.
  • Comprehensive understanding of all aspects of the technology's broader operational environment (i.E., processes, procedures, associated toolsets, operating systems, etc.).
  • Strong Manual and Automated testing experience, including demonstrated success with evolving and maintaining Automated Testing solutions
  • Experience with the agile development process and developing code in alignment with coding standards and business processes.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering automated testing, both in terms of process and tools (e.G., Microfocus ALM, Jira, Microsoft Test Manager, etc).
  • Demonstrated experience with evolving and maintaining Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) and Test-Driven Development (TDD) test automation frameworks compatible with diverse technology stacks.
  • Demonstrated experience with testing aspects of DevOps including IaC for continuous testing purposes using tools such as Bamboo, Jenkins or AzureDevOps.
  • Understanding of engineering principles, products, and services in a hybrid cloud environment, with a technical background.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to influence and persuade outcomes / direction
  • Excellent analytical and problem resolution skills
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer systems or Software engineering related qualification
  • Experience in quality engineering solution design for continuous testing and test automation.
  • Market knowledge and experience in the delivery of retail and technology solutions
