Suncorp is ramping up its investment in building new AI capabilities into its various customer and business processes across its various functions. This will lead to improved customer experiences and Suncorp becoming a more efficient and agile organisation. As a Senior Data Scientist at Suncorp, you will be in a pivotal technical role that drives the design and implementation of complex and varied Data Science and AI projects aimed at delivering substantial business value. You will report into one of our Principal Data Scientists and have a significant amount of autonomy in what you do.

You will have access to market leading AI and GenAI tools and models and Suncorp's extensive data assets. You will work with business leaders in a collaborative way to develop these solutions. While this role is not formally a staff leadership position, the successful candidate will possess informal leadership responsibilities to junior data science staff, potentially overseeing small offshore delivery teams.

Your responsibilities will include the design and build of initiatives from prototype development to pilot implementation and ultimately to the integration of fully industrialized and scaled data science assets into core business processes. Additionally, the role carries significant accountability in championing best practice methodologies within the Data Science &
AI community, acting asa recognized thought leader, and effectively communicating with key stakeholders to drive impactful outcomes.

AI Centre of Excellencededicated to optimizing the value that our Group extracts from its investment in data and AI. This involves fostering robust business relationships, offering strategic counsel, and championing the development of Data Science &
AI initiatives, both those we build internally and through external collaborations.

What you'll do

  • Delivery of high-impact Data Science &
    AI Initiatives, including Generative AI models and Intelligent Process Automation for improved business processes like customer service, claims processing, sales processes, risk and cost base optimization.
  • Bringing in cutting-edge external Data Science and AI concepts, effective communication across technical and executive audiences, and active participation in industry forums.
  • Solving business problems through innovative technical solutions, collaborating with senior stakeholders, and ensuring deployment and scalability of solutions.
  • Building strong relationships with senior stakeholders, showcasing value through presentations and prototypes, and illustrating potential impact across the organization.
  • Providing insight into emerging AI trends, offering counsel to the Data Science technical job family, and contributing to the Group's Data Science strategy.
  • Cultivating a significant industry network, engaging in relevant industry forums, and contributing to the broader Data Science community.
  • Measuring success through tangible improvements such as revenue increase, cost reduction, enhanced customer satisfaction, and decreased complaints, while fostering excellence across all initiatives.

What you'll bring

  • 5+ years of experience in Data Science, AI, or closely related disciplines, demonstrating practical expertise and proficiency in the field.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field (data science, machine learning, statistics, actuarial, engineering, mathematics, etc.) (mandatory).
  • A practical focus on using your technical skills to generate tangible business value.
  • A can-do attitude to 'getting things done' that deliver value. A proactive mindset that takes the initiative to move things forward.
  • Experience in developing and implementing Data Science pipelines involving Machine Learning algorithms is mandatory, with experience working on Databricks being highly valued.
  • Knowledge of Generative AI and experience in developing proof-of-concepts or building prototypes using GenAI is desirable
  • Proficiency in Python programming and expertise in developing ML models and/or pipelines are mandatory requirements.
  • Thorough understanding of Machine Learning algorithms and deep neural networks is mandatory.
  • Proven track record of successfully productionizing Data Science solutions and familiarity with advanced tools and technologies such as Databricks and Generative AI.
