The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. We bring important day-to-day services together in one department to make things easy and seamless for Victorians and businesses. We are doing this by connecting and digitising our systems and platforms across state and local government as well as streamlining our corporate and procurement services.

About the role
We are seeking two Senior Communications Advisers to join our high performing team to tell the stories that bring the department's work to life, and use best practice communication to support the Victorian community.

These newly established roles are responsible for raising the profile of DGS's cyber and resilience efforts and activities, and educating diverse audiences about cyber safety through innovative and creative communication approaches.

This involves working in partnership with business areas across DGS to ensure stakeholders receive the right messages, through the right channels, at the right time. An ability to develop strong networks and relationships internally and with key stakeholders is vital to this role.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to deliver high-quality, innovative communication strategies and materials through a variety of channels.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and negotiation skills, with an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, provide timely and accurate advice and work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in monitoring and evaluating projects as part of continual improvement.
  • An ability to identify emerging issues and support the team to develop mitigation strategies to manage risk, as well as respond to major incidents.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and an ability to problem solve and achieve quality outcomes under tight deadlines.

Desired experience / qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in public relations and communication, or equivalent, and/or experience in a government communication role.
  • Experience and awareness of government emergency response protocols and processes, and crisis communications.
