About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic minded Senior Business Analyst with experience working in consulting or as part of a strategy or planning function, on a wide range of complex assignments. This role reports into the Business Architect within EPA's Strategy Division and will involve working under their direction on individual and shared engagements as part of a small team operating as an internal consultancy. The Business Architecture function leads internal stakeholders though defining, analysing, and understanding complex problems and challenges, identifying capability gaps/needs, and recommending improvement activities to guiding the organisation in navigating uncertainty on priority focus areas to an articulated roadmap that can be further elaborated and delivered by relevant functions across EPA.

Applicants should have experience across a range of methodologies, tools and templates with confidence in identifying which approaches may be relevant for a given assignment, applying these and communicating them to lead others in their use. A learning and growth mindset will be highly beneficial, as will a curiosity in understanding how organisations work as a complex system, paired with empathy for the people working within it as the role will often require bringing stakeholders with very different priorities and needs together on a common challenge, requiring experience in group facilitation and introducing others to new concepts or methodologies as a part of the function of this team.

In this role you will:

  • Lead stakeholders through defining and understanding complex business and regulatory problems, and identifying potential solutions, either individually or through facilitated in person/virtual group workshops
  • Apply a strategic, whole of enterprise approach to work assignments, leveraging skills in business analysis to identify patterns and connections to strategic plans and roadmaps and dependencies with other business activities.
  • Develop communication tools to articulate complex information to senior leaders and internal EPA audiences in a way that is easy to understand including Views and Viewpoints to highlight decision inputs for planning activities.
  • Support the Business Architect as a member of the Business Architecture Practice in maintaining Capability Reference Models, Regulatory Architecture, Process Architecture, and EPA's Regulatory Capability Plan.

Skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in business analysis across a broad range of settings, with knowledge of Business Analysis Methodologies (BABOK) advantageous
  • Demonstrated experience with process modelling and improvement and experienced in Business Process Modelling Standards (BPMN 2.0) and use of Visio or equivalent process modelling software
  • Experience in developing journey maps, empathy maps and/or other Design Thinking and Human Centred Design methods and innovation methodologies.
  • Experience working with business and process architectures, with an understanding of using business capabilities and capability maturity to inform business improvement priorities
  • A relevant tertiary degree and/or post graduate qualification in business analysis, applied business architecture or similar will be advantageous
