About the role

We are currently looking for a Senior Associate / SpecialCounsel to join our high-performing Public Law - Probity team inCanberra (this role can be based out of Melbourne or Canberra). Themajority of the work will involve advising Commonwealth governmentclients on probity and commercial issues arising in major projects,procurement and contracting processes, grants administration, andcorporate and public sector governance matters.

You will be working closely with two pre-eminent Partners in aleading national firm. We are looking for a talented andprofessional self-starter who can help us provide pragmatic andsolutions-focused advice to Commonwealth Government clients(including senior level officials), mentor and supervise otherlawyers, help grow the practice and help foster a strong teamenvironment. You will have the opportunity to work on complex,interesting and high profile projects.

You will need to be able to gain the trust and confidence of ourclients, bring a level-headed and strategic perspective toproblem-solving, and strong legal drafting skills and attention todetail. A positive and facilitative 'can do' attitudeto problem-solving is also a must!

About you

We are looking for someone with the following skills andexperience:

  • At least 5 years' experience as a lawyer working withgovernment clients
  • General commercial law and contracting experience
  • Strong understanding of public sector procurement andgrants frameworks
  • Good understanding of public sector ethical and probityprinciples
  • Strong emotional intelligence and inter-personalskills
  • A collaborative, team-focused attitude
  • A keenness to learn and help others learn
