About therole

Viterra is seeking a ScientificOfficer to ensure the highest standards of grain quality are metacross our network. Based in our laboratory, this role plays acrucial part in conducting essential grain chemical residue,reference material, and PCR testing. These tests are pivotal inverifying and preserving the integrity and safety of our grainproducts, ensuring they consistently adhere to rigorous qualitystandards throughout their production and distribution.

Duties include but notlimited to

  • Adhere to processes andprocedures, and directions in relation to food safety andquality management.
  • Report any identified foodsafety risks in a timely manner.
  • Conduct sample preparationfor chemical residue, lateral flow and PCRanalysis.
  • Ensure best practice methodsare used to maximise efficiencies.
  • Conduct testing using LCMSand GCMS to generate data for review.
  • Conduct lateral flow striptesting and PCR quantification.
  • Record data and test resultsin the specified format.
  • Contribute to and maintainappropriate regulatory requirements for NATA accreditation toISO17025 standards.
  • Contribute to the achievementin advancement of new and existing technical capabilities ofthe laboratory and reporting activities.

Skills andexperience

  • A tertiary qualification inrelevant science discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience andknowledge in good laboratory practices.
  • Demonstrated experience usingLCMS and/or GCMS is highly regarded.
  • Ability to work independentlyand in a team, be self-motivated and proactive.
  • Demonstrated experience ofquantitative PCR techniques and assay development.
  • Effective oral and writtencommunication skills and ability to communicate and interactwith staff at all levels.
  • Computer literacy inMicrosoft Office and other relevant scientificsoftware.
  • Ability to accuratelymaintain laboratory records for traceability.
  • Ability to prioritise tasksand use knowledge and initiative.
  • Ability to work in ahigh-pressure environment with strict deadlines.
