See yourself in our team
As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will be a technical leader within the Virtual Hosting crew responsible for the safe, sound and secure delivery and operation of infrastructure and PaaS services hosted within our on premise data centres. The Principal Engineer is a senior individual contributor, and is needed to lead and influence our platforms' strategic directions. The design, build and run of our platforms and our world class products and services through engineering effective solutions to our problem spaces.
We're Interested in hearing from people who

• Provide strategic leadership in shaping the technical vision for site reliability and DevOps automation, driving innovation and best practices across our crew and the Group.
• Lead and collaborate with platform engineering squads to enhance system reliability, performance, and scalability through the implementation of DevOps &
  SRE type practices.
• Lead the creation and maintenance of advanced automation solutions for continuous integration, deployment, monitoring, and incident response, ensuring a high level of system reliability and operational efficiency.
• Spearhead the development and implementation infrastructure-as-code (IaC) solutions using differing tools and software, ensuring consistent and reproducible infrastructure deployments.
• Mentor and coach team members, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous learning within the SRE and DevOps community.
• Champion the establishment and improvement of monitoring and alerting systems, employing tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, to proactively identify and address performance issues.
• Drive post-incident reviews and root cause analyses, implementing preventative measures to enhance overall system resilience.
• Collaborate with security teams to integrate security best practices into the CI/CD pipelines, platform, and applications.
• Participate in on-call rotations, responding to incidents, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing preventive measures.

• Technology/software start-ups.
• Financial sector.
• Software and cloud service providers.
• Systems Integrators, and service providers.
• Telecommunications.
• Large complex environments and businesses, from a people processes and technology aspect.

Tech skills
We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don't expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team;

• Kubernetes clusters, and operations.
• Linux O/S.
• Ceph and MinIO cloud native storage and Linux engineering and tools.
• Automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform.
• Source control, and CI/CD tooling such as GitHub, GitHub actions, Jenkis, and Argo CD.
• Go/Java languages, Bash/Python scripting.
• VMware solutions.
• AVI load balancing.
• Cloud Native network policy such as Calcio.
• Infrastructure as code pipelines and automation.
• PowerDNS.
• Observability with Grafana and Prometheus.
• Networking and SDN protocols and architectures, including network automation.
