Principal Power System Engineer

Our client is an international EPC and Project Developer in the renewable energy space, specifically in large scale solar and BESS. They are currently looking for an experienced Power Systems Engineer to join their office in Brisbane.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Preliminary analysis of transmission network data to assess connection locations and capacity for early-stage developments.
• Develop high quality Connection Application package in compliance with AEMO and NSP requirements.
• Lead the communications and GPS meetings with NSPs and AEMO and negotiate on applicable performance standards.
• Collaborate with internal teams, including project managers to meet grid connection application requirements.
• Establish and maintain communications with external stakeholders such as Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), network service providers, OEM, regulatory bodies, and technical consultants throughout the grid connection process.
• Take the lead in generator registration and assess the impacts of market rule changes.
• Provide technical guidance for design inputs concerning grid connection, substation, and collector network aspects of projects.
• Assist the operations team in managing plant changeovers and resolving technical non-conformances and other issues.
• Stay updated with the latest R0/R1 regulations and industry standards.
• Contribute to the development of effective business processes, systems, standards, and templates for efficient project delivery.

Requirements

• Bachelor's in electrical engineering or a related field.
• Master's or PhD in electrical engineering or a related field would be highly valued.
• Generator and power systems modeling experience - solar farm and BESS modeling with PSSE/PSCAD and Power Factory.
• Experience in connecting projects to the NEM through the AEMO connections process.
• Prior grid connection engineering experience on the NEM (solar farm and battery energy storage systems (BESS) or hybrid plant registration will be highly valued).
• Highly proficient in tools such as PSSE/PACAD/PowerFactory
