In this role you will:

  • contribute to the effective functioning of the Legal team and the commission, with a particular focus on the provision of strategic legal advice on a diverse range of maters, encompassing general operational advice, administrative law and statutory interpretation.
  • frequently engage with senior internal stakeholders including commissioners and the executive team, effectively communicating risks and legal issues involved in commission decisions.
  • supervise and mentor junior lawyers within the team, including the settling of written advice.

    Position details

    The position is responsible for:

    • providing and overseeing the consistent delivery of practical, strategic legal advice on a diverse range of matters, including pertaining to the regulation of energy, water and the Victorian Energy Upgrades program.
    • collaborating across the commission on strategic initiatives and projects, providing legal guidance and expertise and effectively communicating risks and legal issues involved in commission decisions.
    • undertaking legal review of a range of documentation including commission and committee papers, publications and legal instruments.
    • supporting the Director, Legal to drive the delivery of best practice legal advice and guidance, ensuring the legal services provided by the team are high-quality and practical.
