We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Engineer - Protection at Perth Office CBD on a Permanent Full-Time basis.


About this role

With the ever-accelerating push towards net-zero emissions, it is imperative that Western Power's Protection Systems can keep up with the demands of the future network.

As Principal Engineer - Protection you will be accountable for providing technical leadership and significant guidance, advice, and counsel over the engineering and design activities for Western Power's Protection Systems.

The successful candidate for this position will be required to:

  • Help ensure that Western Power's protection systems are fit for the integration of new technology and system requirements.
  • Keep protection design standards up to date, incorporating new technology as required.
  • Provide mentoring, assistance and teaching to colleagues and less experienced engineers.
  • Provide specialist protection advice to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead investigations into system incidents.
  • Perform as part of special project teams formed within the business.


About you

We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree
  • Registered member of Engineers Australia as Chartered professional engineer
  • 15 + years comprehensive and broad engineering experience
  • Specialist asset class knowledge
  • Strong financial analysis skills, demonstrating business acumen
  • Advanced change management and mentoring skills
  • Ability to provide mentoring / coaching to other less qualified individuals where required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent influencing and negotiation skills
