With a growing volume of studies and projects, Lycopodium Process Industries is currently recruiting for a Principal Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering team in Melbourne.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful applicant will be the primary focal point for supporting the business in relation to the Electrical Engineering function, overseeing the management and delivery of the team. Additionally, you will be responsible for proficiently managing the coordination and production of design outputs that are fit for purpose and in alignment with Project and Study requirements.

The tasks you'll perform

  • Manage and deliver electrical studies and design projects.
  • Maintain the quality of output produced from the appointed discipline team to ensure deliverables are met to a high-level of accuracy.
  • Develop and monitor the production of designs in accordance with Project, Client and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct timely reviews of Project electrical drawings to achieve full compliance with design intent.
  • Approve, guide and review engineering designs, including calculations &
    design development.
  • Direction and review of electrical drafting including single lines, schematics, loop diagrams, hook-up drawings and panels.
  • Coordinate electrical design activities with other engineering disciplines.
  • Understand and educate the team of the latest developments to Industry and Project specific codes, standards and related engineering matters.
  • Maximise the productivity and efficiency of the discipline by planning, scheduling and the appropriate allocation of resources to ensure deliverables are met.
  • Contribute to engineers-in-training professional development by providing consistent mentoring and identify avenues of development.
  • Develop and contribute to the delivery of improvement initiatives which support business priorities for continuous improvement.
  • Review and approve certified vendor documentation and disseminate the information to theappropriate personnel for interface checking.

The expertise you'll bring

  • University Degree in Electrical Engineering or the equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • 15+ years post-graduate experience working within the industrial processes industry or on similar capital projects.
  • Previous control and automation design and hazardous area design experience highly regarded.
  • Working knowledge of low voltage design and switchboard functionality.
  • Hold a Hazardous Area certificate by a registered RTO.
  • AS61511 Functional Safety awareness (preferably Qualified).
  • AS4024.1 Machine guarding working knowledge.
  • PLC/DCS configuration capability (not essential).
  • Proficient understanding of business acumen with the ability to adapt to different business environments.
  • Capacity to delegate appropriately.
  • Ability to provide mentoring and identify avenues of professional development and succession planning for personnel within your business unit.
  • Exceptional ability to multitask and work at pace in a complex and challenging EPCM sector.
