We are currently seeking a Naval Architect to join our defence team as a consultant within our Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne offices. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality engineering expertise to achieve project outcomes and supporting client relations and business development activities.

As a Naval Architect Consultant, you will provide critical technical expertise and support across our diverse portfolio of projects. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, analyze, and optimize vessel structures and systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact within the defence sector, contributing to the success of our projects and the satisfaction of our clients.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Conduct comprehensive stability analyses, encompassing initial assessments, intact and damage stability calculations, and compliance verification with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to project teams and clients on naval architecture-related issues, serving as a subject matter expert in sustainability, weights and margins.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate stability, weights, and margins considerations into overall ship design, addressing interdisciplinary challenges and optimising design solutions.
  • Foster a culture of safety and excellence in naval architecture practices, promoting continuous improvement and innovation in stability, weights and overall ship integration.
  • Participate in sea trials, model testing, and operational assessments to validate design performance and identity opportunities for optimisation in stability, weights, and overall ship integration.

Qualifications and Skills.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering
  • Relevant Industry Experience:
    Practical experience in ship design, naval engineering, or maritime operations. This experience could be gained through work in shipyards, prime contractors, naval design firms, maritime consultancies, or government agencies.
  • Must be capable of obtaining security clearance to work in the Australian Defence sector.
  • Relevant training/qualifications in aligned discipline
  • Practical experience in the application of the methods and tools related to discipline
  • Flexibility to work outside of standard hours as required
  • Security cleared where appropriate
  • Certification from a recognised professional body such as Engineers Australia or the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA)
  • Experience in Defence Maritime Industry
  • Experience using Rhino CAD, Inventor, AutoCAD, Maxsurf, Ansys and or Spacegass
