About the role

Reporting to the General Manager of Engineering, this role is responsible for providing excellence in mechanical engineering and manufacturing within the Breville's New Product Development business unit. As Mechanical Engineering Development Manager (MED) you will work alongside the Head of Mechanical Engineering to foster a world-class engineering design team (talent, capability, capacity, and culture), and ensure Breville provides a nurturing, challenging and highly rewarding career path within ME. You will also play an instrumental role in the allocation of resources to project teams and the design of associated engineering frameworks.

This is a permanent, full-time position based in Alexandria, Sydney.

Your role will include but not be limited to:

  • Lead a team of Mechanical Design Engineers to perform efficiently and contribute to their optimum for the achievement of the organizational objectives (recruiting, managing, mentoring, training, motivating, and rewarding)
  • Develop strategies to attract and develop the best talent to meet project and business needs
  • Develop a best-in-class career path and reward structure for all team members
  • Oversee allocation of resources to project teams
  • Perform assessment of resource mix and capacity based on project goals and deliverables
  • Provide governance of stage gate requirements and participate in stage gate meetings
  • Provide support to the Product Development Manager, Category Manager, and project teams in passing the stage gate requirements of the product development process.
  • Participate in Technical Review Board Meetings or Working Groups
  • Develop the right combination of Subject Matter Expert (SME's) and Broad Expert team members to meet the strategy and specific needs of GP and the Breville business. This includes developing team members with relevant and complimentary subject matter expertise
  • Develop ME department frameworks that guide and define the project team's delivery of ME standards
  • Ensure ME and wider project teams are well trained in the ME frameworks and systems in conjunction with other departments and the L&
    D manager
  • Collaborate with other departments such as Electronics Eng, Software Eng, Industrial Design, UX, IP and Quality Assurance to ensure the combined frameworks are as simple, well communicated, and effective as possible
  • Collate feedback from the ME and the rest of the project teams in the portfolios on what's working and what's not working, then make any changes necessary
  • Seek and action feedback from the ME and project teams, domain leaders and PGMs to maximise the ME team potential
  • Develop and manage the department budget
  • Management of Third party's (Consultants) which will include operational relationship management, financial and contract negotiation
  • Contribute to Supplier / Manufacturer qualification and review
  • Continually identifying gaps and drive engineering activities to close those gaps

We're Interested In Hearing From People Who Have:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Engineering
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrable experience applying analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word required
  • Strong influencing skills with key stakeholders
  • End to end project management experience
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritize workloads
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
