Your new role

We have an opportunity for an individual to join our Public Law team as Managing Principal Lawyer - Public Interest Disclosure on a full-time fixed term basis. Reporting to the Director - Public Law, Policy &
Oversight, the role will lead a team that is responsible for providing authoritative legal advice to IBAC officers (including the Commissioner, Chief Executive Officer, Deputy Commissioners and other teams) in relation to IBAC's stewardship of the Public Interest Disclosures Act 2012.

Duties include:

  • Provide complex legal advice, including liaison and negotiation with stakeholders, to support IBAC and its business units, to meet their statutory obligations.
  • Provide day to day leadership and management, guidance, and development to a team of Lawyers and legal support staff, maintaining appropriate levels of resources and managing leave requests.
  • Lead the successful delivery of IBAC's Public Interest Disclosure Framework Implementation project.
  • Manage and develop team members and review complex legal advice, reports, correspondence, policies and procedures.

Our requirements / Your skill set

We are looking for candidates with the below experience and capabilities:

  • Significant knowledge of or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of IBAC's obligations pursuant to the relevant legislation.
  • Bachelor of Laws or equivalent legal qualification from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • Current practising certificate under Legal Profession Uniform Law, or eligibility to acquire a practising certificate.
