Your role
We have an exciting opportunity for an Insurable Risk Advisory Manager to lead a highly experienced team of risk advisors dedicated to delivering important insurable risk advice to the Victorian public sector.
Your leadership will ensure that our clients are not unconsciously uninsured and have appropriate risk transfer arrangements. You'll play a crucial role in supporting the State to actively reduce its insurable risk exposure.
As a key member of the Insurable Risk leadership team, you will report directly to the Head of Insurable Risk Advisory in the Risk, Insurance &
Claims Solutions Division. This is your chance to add value to the Victorian Public Sector and ultimately make a difference to the Victorian Community.
What you do
This is a leadership role with a diverse set of responsibilities that are likely to evolve over time. Your key responsibilities are to:

  • Lead a team of risk and insurance professionals in line with VMIA's values and People strategies.
  • Build trusted relationships through empathy and deliver strategic advisory services to clients.
  • Lead client relationship manager for System Owner and Agency clients - coordinating, contributing to and reporting on the account management and client service plan process.
  • Deliver strategic advisory services to all our client segments.
  • Identify new ways to connect our clients with VMIA's wealth of expertise.
  • Lead and support initiatives that will contribute to the delivery of our corporate strategy and targets.
  • Work closely with our Insurance, Claims and other VMIA teams to deliver optimal risk transfer arrangements for the Victorian government.
  • Design and deliver an end-to-end insurable risk advisory service, from needs analysis to insurance placement - helping our clients reduce the likelihood and consequences of insurable events.
  • Plan and prioritise client engagements based on potential benefits to Victoria.
  • Lead client engagements with our Claims Reduction Advisory and Harm Prevention teams to identify and communicate opportunities to reduce the cost and frequency of claims.
  • Lead the design and delivery of an insurable risk maturity service so that clients can better understand opportunities and take meaningful action to improve their capability.
  • Provide a suite of transactional insurance services to support the ongoing maintenance of cover for clients - including enquiries, renewal, ministerial directions, machinery of government changes, new policies, endorsements, debt management and general support services.
  • Drive improvement to the Client Portal functionality and work with our Digital Enablement team to implemented changes to system and related processes and workflows to enhance client experience.
  • Actively monitor client feedback via formal and informal channels, and continually improve services.
  • Be a shared service for insurable risk services across all client segments.
  • Support internal executive and board communications using defined briefing and reporting processes.

Who you work with

  • You work across all our client segments and regularly communicate and consult with your peers in the Risk Services and Insurance Divisions to inform trends, market needs, changes, and new opportunities for clients.
  • You are the lead client relationship manager for system owner and agency clients and facilitate your peers across the organisation to develop client service plans and maintain a comprehensive view of all aspects of our clients' needs.
  • From time to time you may update the Chief Insurance officer, reporting and presenting on strategic programs or initiatives.

About you

  • This position is ideal for a professional who has leadership experience in insurance, risk management, consulting, or advisory roles, within government or financial services sectors.
  • You must have deep insurance knowledge with a risk-management mindset to provide expert advice and recommend effective insurable risk solutions.
  • You must have people leadership skills, highly capable and experienced in coaching, developing, and bringing out the best in your team.
  • You have a track record of developing and managing a portfolio and client relationships, including the management of agreed service delivery programs and outcomes.
  • You have highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, proven client relationship management experience and the ability to influence very senior stakeholders and negotiate mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • You have a deep understanding of leading risk management and its relationship to insurance practices.
  • You've successfully led, influenced, and coached professional people undergoing constant change to achieve organisation objectives.
  • You have an appreciation of the complexities and nuances of public sector management, having operated successfully in such an environment before.
