About the Business Unit:

The Police, Racing, Victims and Coordination (PRVC) group is responsible for leading key policy reform and programs across the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). It enhances community safety and wellbeing through public policy, governance, legislative advice, reform and grants, bringing together all policy and reform functions aligned to the Police, Crime Prevention, Victims and Racing portfolios.

Ministerial Services, Policy Reform and Programs (MSPRP) comprise several business units, including:
Ministerial Services and Coordination, Policy Reform and Programs and Redress Design. These business units are responsible for providing critical departmental and Ministerial coordination support and delivering essential family violence programs and crime prevention grants. MSPRP is also responsible for delivery of priority justice policy reforms in line with departmental and Ministerial priorities. It also leads on crime prevention, family violence and the public intoxication reforms. MSPRP teams work in a dynamic environment, requiring agile policy teams to respond to key priorities as they arise.

About the Role:

This role will be split over a 12 month period accordingly:
Six months as the Manager, Violence Prevention and Safety Policy, and six months as Principal Policy Officer, Priority Justice Policy and Family Violence.

As the Manager you will lead a multi-disciplinary team to responsible for consulting with diverse stakeholder groups and shaping authoritative policy advice to senior departmental executives. This role will play a key leadership role, with a particular responsibility for the provision of high level advice to Senior Executives.

As the Principal Policy Officer you will be responsible for delivering a breadth of policy reform and programs work across the priority policy reforms for the group. You will be responsible for working on priority projects, to deliver policy reform.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Providing authoritative, strategic policy advice as it relates to a range of portfolios relevant to the Ministerial Services, Policy Reform and Programs business unit
  • Leading the development and implementation of policy reform, including planning and design, consultation and developing effective solutions to barriers
  • Managing and developing a team, including staff performance management, contributing to staff professional development, building capability and delivering quality outputs.

About You:

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

  • Well-developed knowledge of government and the justice system, including issues and pressures to which the department and government has to respond
  • Demonstrated experience in providing leadership, guidance and performing effectively under pressure in a dynamic and politically sensitive environment
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and extensive experience in preparing and coordinating timely, concise and accurate briefings.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • A tertiary qualification in a related discipline would be highly desirable.
