About the role:

You will lead and manage a team responsible for providing data analytics capability to support regulatory operations and decision making. You will oversee the delivery of data analytics services, support and the governance of data models aligned to EPA's strategic priorities to prevent harm to Victorian communities and the environment from pollution and waste. This is a senior management role for an experienced manager that has hands on experience in data modelling and has effectively implemented data analytics strategy in a cloud environment using Azure/Databricks.

In this role you will:

  • Build, lead, and manage a high-performing analytics team, including data analysts in building, maintaining, and leveraging strategic relationships and partnerships.
  • Manage and collaborate with senior business stakeholders to secure strong engagement and ensure data quality and integrity, compliance with data governance policies, implement data quality processes and check as needed and contribute to the success the data roadmap.
  • Ensure a robust, transparent, risk and evidence-based approach with data analytics projects and initiatives.
  • Provide strategic data analysis (modelling, trend forecasting) to support the setting and delivery of EPA's strategic priorities.
  • Oversee the collection, processing, analysis and governance of data to extract valuable insights and trends and translate data into actionable recommendations and strategic insights for decision-makers.

Skills and experience:

  • Deep understanding of predictive analytics and regression modelling and good grasp of cloud technologies including Azure/Databricks.
  • Deep understanding of data products and data mesh concepts is essential and previous modelling experience in R and Python would be desirable.
  • Leadership experience and a record of achievement in leading a data analytics function. Previous experience building comprehensive data analytics platform will be advantageous.
  • Ability to manage data risk arising from analytic products and ownership of the risk items is critical.
  • A relevant tertiary degree and/or post graduate qualifications is desirable.
