Our client, a prominent integrated energy company, is currently seeking a skilled and motivated Legal Counsel to join their legal team in Melbourne.
As Legal Counsel, the successful candidate will undertake a pivotal role in providing expert legal guidance and support across various aspects of our client's operations, ensuring adherence to all relevant laws and regulations, and contributing to the ongoing success of the organisation.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Legal Advisory:
    responsible for offering specialized legal advice and support to our client's diverse business units. This will encompass a wide range of legal matters, including but not limited to commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, litigation, employment law, and corporate governance.
  • Contract Review and Negotiation:
    diligently reviewing, drafting, and skillfully negotiating contracts with suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders. It will be imperative to ensure that these contracts align with our client's interests and adhere to all relevant legal requirements.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    monitoring and interpreting changes in laws and regulations that pertain to our client's operations will be a key responsibility and instrumental in ensuring that our client remains in full compliance with all applicable legal obligations.
  • Litigation Management:
    effectively managing and overseeing legal disputes and litigation involving our client will be part of the role. This may involve close collaboration with external legal counsel when required.
  • Risk Assessment:
    identify and assess legal risks and provide proactive risk management strategies to safeguard our client's interests.
  • Policy Development:
    active participation in the development and implementation of company policies and procedures will be essential. This includes ensuring that these policies align with legal requirements and industry best practices.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:
    collaborate with internal stakeholders, including executives and various business units, to provide valuable legal insights and contribute to strategic decision-making.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and current practicing certificate.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working as a legal counsel or solicitor in a reputable law firm or corporate legal department, with a focus on commercial law and regulatory compliance.
  • A strong understanding of the energy industry and related regulations will be highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are crucial, along with the ability to convey complex legal concepts in a clear and concise manner.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, managing multiple tasks and prioritizing effectively.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing legal issues.

Remuneration &
Benefits

This position offers a competitive salary ranging from $170,000 to $200,000 package based on qualifications and experience. Additionally, our client provides a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance and professional development opportunities.
