DJCS Emergency Management

Emergency Management, within the Department of Justice and Community Safety (the Department) works closely with government and agencies across the emergency management portfolio. The group is led by the Deputy Secretary, Emergency Management. Emergency Management includes the department's emergency management accountabilities and statutory entities and offices.

The Business Unit:
Emergency Management Victoria

Emergency Management Victoria (EMV) leads emergency management in Victoria by working with government, agencies and business to strengthen their capacity to withstand, plan for, respond to and recover from emergencies. EMV is a statutory entity and is part of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (the Department). The Department, through the Secretary, employs EMV staff and provides corporate functions to EMV. EMV is led jointly by the Chief Executive (CE) and the Emergency Management Commissioner (EMC).

Operations

The purpose of the Operations Branch is to lead the emergency operational coordination and state operations in Victoria by working with communities, government, agencies and business to strengthen their capacity to withstand, plan for, respond to and recover from emergencies.

About the Role

The Lead Lessons and Improvement Officer manages the implementation of lessons and improvement frameworks, processes and systems across the sector, including guidance and coordination of operational lessons and evaluation activities (monitoring, debriefing and reviewing) and supports the State Review Team.

Other duties will include:

  • Managing the collation of reporting against the emergency management operational standards on behalf of the Emergency Management Commissioner.
  • Providing high level expertise on the preparation of relevant documents, reports and briefings
  • Building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships with sector agencies

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience or understanding of the operations of Victorian emergency management
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing/implementing a lessons management and/or continuous improvement framework or methodology
  • Experience working in a dynamic operational environment
