About Our Client

Our client is a non-for-profit group and is one of the largest private providers of health services in Australia, employing more than 16,000 employees. They operate hospitals and services including home nursing, disability services and social outreach programs.

Job Description

  • Provide advice in relation to our clients obligations as a Self-insurer under the WCIMWCIM Act and under the WorkCoverWorkCover WA Insurer and Self-insurer Principles and Standards of Practice;
  • Provide strategic and technical advice in relation to workers'workers' compensation claims, including:
    • liability, quantum and reserving advice and settlement recommendations;
    • proactive and effective strategies for the management of claims;
    • working collaboratively with other functions to provide legal claims management support;
    • recommendations regarding factual investigations and expert evidence;
    • preparation of instructions and briefs to external solicitors and Counsel.
  • Manage litigated workers'workers' compensation claims and provide advocacy services including:
    • drafting of court documents including WorkCoverWorkCover applications, outlines of submissions and settlement documents;
    • appearing as counsel at WorkCoverWorkCover WA at conciliation conferences, directions hearings, interlocutory applications, arbitration hearings and assessments of costs.
  • Manage and advise on risk exposure in relation to claims;
  • Seek assistancefrom senior lawyers where required;
  • Draft and review policies and procedures;
  • Conduct legal research;
    and
  • Demonstrateproficiency in document management systems.

The Successful Applicant

You will have excellent technical legal skills, strong attention to detail along with superior organisational and time management skills.

It is essential you have demonstrated proactivityproactivity in dealing with matters and be able to anticipate and respond to emerging issues with a proven ability to communicate ideas effectively. You will possess high ethical and professional standards.

The successful candidate must hold a Bachelor of Laws, admission to practice in WA and 3-6 years post admission experience.
