The Head of State Planning, reporting to the Deputy Secretary, Planning and Land Services, is an exciting opportunity to review and shape the future structure of Planning in Victoria and develop a first-class Planning System which is efficient and effective with clear guidelines.

The Department of Transport and Planning brings together key planning, transport, land, precinct and policy functions to create thriving places, connected communities and local economic opportunities for more liveable communities across the State. The Planning and Land Services Group within the Department of Transport and Planning is committed to creating a better Victoria through the delivery of Whole of State services across land, property, statutory planning, building and heritage.

The position leads Victoria's Statutory Planning functions comprising State Planning Policy, State Planning Assessment and Facilitation, and Planning Reform. This incorporates the development of planning policy, administration of statutory planning processes relating to planning scheme amendments, planning permit applications and environmental impact assessment including major infrastructure project assessment and approval and implementation of planning reform. The position will also oversee support for correspondence and ministerial service functions.

To be considered for this position you will have extensive knowledge of, and experience in Planning at a senior executive level with a proven track record of leading change and improvement initiatives. With an ability to influence and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders, you will have a proven track record of building confident, collaborative teams with a positive culture in large complex environments. Political acumen with an understanding of Government processes to effect outcomes at a Whole of Government level is also essential. The ability to professionally engage with Ministers and provide informed advice to Government are critical qualities for this role. Tertiary qualifications in Urban Planning or a related field are also expected.
