Head of Property Delegated Authority, APAC

The position of Head of Property Delegated Authority has the responsibility to produce and underwrite risks appropriate to the defined Classes of business on behalf of the syndicate in accordance with the approved business plan and defined personal authority limits.

He/she shall manage the APAC Property Delegated Authority team, with direct reporting into Head of Short Tail, APAC, and a matrix line to the Global Head of Property &
Country Leader in Australia.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Develop the Property DA Portfolio and proposition in APAC, contributing to underwriting profit, developing and delivering the Annual Plan.
  • Assess and underwrite renewal and new business in a timely and efficient manner in line with the business plan and personal authority limits
  • Review the underwriting appetite and provide recommendations if changes are required.
  • Contribute and adhere to the Natcat Risk appetite, in particular CAT AGGS that correspond to the annual plan
  • Work in close cooperation with London to manage overlap and be consistent, wherever applicable
  • Manage and develop the team.
  • Assess and underwrite renewal and new business in a timely and efficient manner in line with the business plan and personal authority limits.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Cover holders and brokers.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal procedures.
  • Analyse terms, specification, and rating on prospective and existing business
  • Compile underwriting reports as appropriate.
  • Maintain good relationships with external and internal parties as appropriate.
  • Compile statistics and analyse performance of all risks and accounts.
  • Provide input to the Claims Team where appropriate for individual claims or DCA performance
  • Ensure that the Appsure system (and corresponding Subscribe data) is up to date
  • Contribute to the development of dashboards and how further insights can strengthen our value proposition.
  • Confirm that bordereaux data received is accurate, perform and evidence high level checks, engage with cover holders on improvements required to their reporting.
  • Contribute to the DCA process, attending DCA meetings as required.
  • Represent Canopius at UAC and other market events, as required.
  • Compile wordings and proposal forms.
  • Report monthly Premium Income figures with particular attention to EPI management for current and back years.
  • Provide updates for the Quarterly Ultimate process.
  • Undertaking Business Development and provide on the job training for UW and UW assistants when required.

Skills and experience:

  • Technical knowledge of underwriting specific to the Property business lines, and Cover holder management and Lloyds practices &
    processes.
  • Ability to manage aggregation and EPI.
  • Broad exposure to distribution streams &
    Cover holders in ANZ
  • Active involvement in Australian / NZ market is essential.
  • Lloyd's and London market experience would be an advantage.
  • ACII qualification preferable but not essential
  • Degree preferable but not essential
  • Strong IT skills, literacy, numerate and having analytical and negotiation skills.
