The Opportunity

The Head of Merchant Risk Operations (MRO) is key leadership role within ANZ Worldline, responsible for assuring that the risk relating to our customer portfolio is effectively managed. MRO is responsible for managing our customer portfolio risk within the following key domains:

  • Customer Due Diligence - ensuring that all initial, enhanced and ongoing due diligence is performed as per our legal and regulatory obligations.
  • Fraud Operations - ensuring that any fraudulent or suspicious activity is identified and investigated, and appropriate actions taken.
  • Credit Risk - ensuring that risk of customers defaulting are managed within our risk appetite.
  • Scheme Risk - ensuring that customers are compliant with all scheme requirements, and that appropriate actions are taken in line with scheme requirements.

The role and the MRO team is based in Melbourne but is also supported by an offshore team based in Manilla, and the MRO team works closely with colleagues across the Worldline Group is headquartered in Paris.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement risk management strategies to manage risk relating to the customer portfolio and ensure compliance with polices.
  • Provide regular reports and analysis to senior management on MRO performance, trends, and areas of improvement.
  • Ensure that all MRO systems, processes and procedures are continuously reviewed and optimised, and ensure that these documented completely and accurately, and maintained continuously.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and implement risk management training programs for merchants and internal teams.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in so far as they relate to MRO.
  • Work collaboratively with Group and Second Line functions to ensure that policies are effectively implemented in so far as they relate to MRO.
  • Work collaboratively with the Sales organisation to ensure that the end-to-end onboarding process of customers is optimised, while managing risk within acceptable levels.
  • Implement appropriate management level and operational level reporting and making it available to key stakeholders, including reporting on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Mentor and develop both local and offshore teams to ensure that the team has the required skills to meet objectives of the MRO function and the broader ANZ Worldline organisation.

Experience

  • 10+ years within a senior risk and compliance role (KYC, AML, CTF, Fraud, Credit, Underwriting, etc).
  • 7+ years of proven leadership and team management skills within an operational role.
  • 5+ years in payments or technology driven organisation.
  • Experience working with AUSTRAC as a Reporting Entity under the AML/CTF Act.
  • Preferably experience in a merchant acquiring organisation.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent commercial awareness and industry knowledge.
  • Excellent knowledge of Australian regulatory requirements relating to AML/CTF.
  • Excellent knowledge of Australian and International Sanctions and Politically Exposed Person (PEP) requirements.
  • Excellent knowledge of Australian Financial Services Licensing (AFSL) requirements.
  • Excellent knowledge of scheme rules, including VISA and Mastercard.
  • Results driven and ability to work under pressure.
  • Advanced knowledge of Office products, including PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Multicultural and flexible mindset with the ability to multi-task and work in an international environment.

Education

  • Bachelors Degree (Economics, Finance, Law, or equivalent).
