About the Role
Team Global Express (TGE) are seeking the support of a high calibre Head of Health and Safety Operations – Road &
Linehaul to join the team.
As the Head of Health and Safety Operations – Road &
Linehaul, you will be responsible for the provision of professional leadership to shape, define and improve systems and standards in collaboration with the business.
Striving to advance Team Global Express’s strategy through enabling a unified culture of safety, people, customer focus and operational excellence the role leads a team to execute, operationalise and support the implementation of the HSW Strategic Plan and Programs within the Business Unit in line with the ‘Relentless on Safety’ strategy and values.
Primary skills and responsibilities:
Translate the HSW Strategic Plan to support the development and implementation of Business Unit HSW Plans including the setting, monitoring and reporting of HSW targets and performance indicators.
Participate in HSW risk management initiatives and programs to control emerging HSW risks.
Utilise HSW risk management methodologies and frameworks to drive safe business practices that eliminate / minimise critical risks.
Demonstrate visible safety leadership to foster positive HSW cultural change through the implementation of the “Relentless on Safety” Program, HSW audits, inspections and safety conversations.
Work with peers in other lines of business to ensure consistent messaging, application and implementation of the Health Safety Wellbeing (HSW) Global Management System, TRAC and other applicable HSW programs.
Partner with Business Unit leaders to develop and improve HSW competencies within the business.
Encourage, coach and develop HSW team members to develop a high performing function.
Lead and review Significant Safety Incident (SSI) investigations using the ICAM methodology ensuring that both corrective and preventative actions are identified, assigned and monitored for timely completion.
Research and prepare reports on HSW performance issues and improvement strategies to Business Unit senior leaders in order to drive insights and continuous improvement.
Implement and maintain a Business Unit HSW first line of defence HSW assurance program that supports second line of defence assurance activities including management reviews, audits and inspections.
Lead a team of HSW professionals to provide support to Business Unit key risk and compliance areas including Dangerous Goods, Chain of Responsibility, Load restraint, customer and certification Audits.
Identify, monitor and communicate relevant legislative requirements and changes.
Support the HSW Bids and Tenders process by providing bespoke information in an accurate and timely manner.
Support the delivery and implementation of HSW Programs as required to meet TGE and HSW strategies.
Engage with and influence internal and external stakeholders, customers and Regulators.
Be prepared to undertake any other task that may be reasonably required from time to time for which you are capable of performing.

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Health &
Safety, Environment, Risk and / or other relevant discipline
Dangerous Goods qualifications/ training (desirable)
Chartered/ Certified HSE professional (desirable)
Internal Auditor qualifications - IRCA, Exemplar Global or equivalent (desirable)
7-10 years practical experience in a HSE leadership role
A high level of understanding/ experience of the business and issues/ restraints faced by line managers and business teams in implementing HSE processes and programs.
Experience in relationship management of both internal clients and external stakeholders.
Excellent knowledge of HSE training best practice delivery and mapping against qualifications frameworks.
Extensive knowledge of HSE legislation, industry standards and management system standards (ISO45001, ISO45003 &
ISO14001).
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement in the interpretation and analysis of HSE legislation and audit criteria.
Excellent written and communication skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with fellow team members, senior management, stakeholders and industry experts and write high quality reports for senior and executive management.
Highly developed planning and project management skills.
Experience in leading complex incident investigations using ICAM or similar methodologies.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others including legislators, external auditors, accreditation bodies, industry experts.
Identifies opportunities and takes action to build strategic relationships to achieve goals within area of responsibility.
Superior computing skills, advanced Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
